Job description

Brown and Caldwell (BC), a nationally recognized environmental engineering firm, has an exciting opportunity for an Architectural Designer to join our Architectural team. We are a growing team in a growing market, focused on designing facilities related to water, wastewater, and environmental infrastructure.

This role performs basic architecture tasks including BIM/Revit modeling, development architectural drawings, reviewing code and construction support.

More specifically, the successful candidate will work on various projects for municipal, industrial, and federal clients. The candidate will work with other architects, as well as close collaboration with civil, structural, mechanical, process and electrical engineers on projects for facilities primarily serving the water and wastewater industries. Project work includes: conceptualizing and implementing architectural designs; architectural Revit model / BIM creation and drawing production efforts; developing architectural standard details with senior staff; and engaging in multi-disciplinary coordination. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative, multi-discipline environment to develop innovative, cost-effective designs for new facilities, expansions, upgrades and retrofits.

Hybrid work is allowed; preferred office locations include Denver, Houston, Nashville and Chicago.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the creation of plans for building design.
  • Help determine specifications for building design.
  • Participates in regulatory code reviews to ensure project compliance.
  • Assists with conducting investigations into existing conditions, documents findings, and generates reports.
  • Participate in building material selection and review.
  • Assists with creation of RFIs and addendums.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
  • Begin the AXP (Architectural Experience Program) enrolment and documentation.

Skills and Competencies

  • Basic knowledge in the field of architecture and building design.
  • A precursory understanding of regulatory codes and compliance requirements.
  • Key skills in working with coordinated and collaborative teams.
  • Ability to handle basic architecture related tasks and create accompanying documentation.

Experience

  • Typically requires a minimum of 0-2 professional or other related experience.
  • Encouraged to certify in BC's Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework in the first six months of being in the role.

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
  • Knowledge of construction documents, construction technology and building systems.
  • Knowledge of building codes and national standards.
  • Passion for design excellence, collaboration and willingness to learn.
  • Experience with architectural modeling, detailing and drawing production.

Education

  • A degree in architecture or related field or equivalent experience is required.
  • The role shall start the AXP (Architectural Experience Program) process within six months of starting the role.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.  

Location A: $64,000 - $87,000
Location B: $71,000 - $96,000
Location C: $77,000 - $105,000
