The Senior Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer designs, develops, and deploys artificial intelligence solutions across the organization. This role bridges the gap between theoretical AI/ML models and production-ready applications, ensuring scalability, reliability, and business value. Working closely with data science teams, the Senior AI Engineer transforms innovative concepts into robust, enterprise-grade AI systems that drive Covestro's digital transformation.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities

AI Solution Development & Integration

  • Engineer and deploy AI and machine learning models into production environments
  • Design and implement comprehensive MLOps and AIOps pipelines for model lifecycle management
  • Create monitoring systems to detect model drift and implement automated retraining mechanisms

Infrastructure & Architecture

  • Architect scalable AI solutions leveraging cloud and edge computing technologies
  • Develop and maintain microservice architectures supporting AI deployments
  • Implement data pipelines to support training and inference needs across diverse data types

Collaboration & Innovation

  • Partner with data scientists and Generative AI Engineers to optimize model performance and deployment efficiency
  • Work cross-functionally with business stakeholders to align AI solutions with business needs
  • Evaluate and incorporate emerging AI technologies to maintain competitive advantage

Business Impact

  • Drive business value by successfully integrating AI capabilities into Covestro's core processes
  • Accelerate digital transformation through automated, intelligent solutions that enhance efficiency and innovation

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field with 7+ years' experience; OR Master's degree in in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field with 5+ years experience; OR PhD with 3+ years experience
  • 3+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, with demonstrated success in production AI systems
  • Experience with modern AI frameworks

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong expertise in containerization and cloud platforms
  • Proficiency with data processing technologies) and database systems
  • Programming expertise in Python and familiarity with other languages
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving technologies and requirements
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for collaboration purposes
