CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. DoD Top Secret or TS/SCI is a major plus. The individual selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a passionate, experienced Strategy and Business Development Director (SBDD) for the Autonomous Maritime Platforms (AMP) Business Segment of the Unmanned Systems and Future Combatants (UFC) Business Area. The SBDD will lead the formulation of strategy and business development activities for AMP initiatives at General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS), including cultivating key U.S Government customers and industry partners, developing and leading capture teams for new programs and business ventures, managing the allocated annual investment funds, and leading the development of long-range strategic plans. The SBDD reports to the GDMS UFC Business Development Director (UFCBDD) in the UFC Business Area of the Maritime & Strategic Systems (M&SS) Line of Business. The SBDD will support the AMP Segment Director in the growth of the segment, and the Future Combatant Mission Systems (FCMS) Segment Director in cross segment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
The position is the business development lead responsible for developing and executing business strategy in support of growing our market share within the unmanned maritime systems market. The candidate will work with customers and industry partners and draw upon the broader capabilities of General Dynamics (GD) to be successful. Knowledge of unmanned maritime vehicle (undersea and surface - UxV) technologies and government, academic, and industry participants in the developing UxV defense and commercial markets is strongly preferred. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills and an ability to rapidly grasp advanced technologies and how they may be applied to satisfy customer requirements. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated ability to work both independently and within highly motivated teams. Experience in business development, program management, systems engineering, autonomous vehicles, and in understanding government contracting procedures and business development methodologies, including bid and capture strategies, is strongly desired.
Proven, relevant and current industry business experience or operational and/or business experience with the US Navy UxV and submarine communities, including NAVSEA, NAVWAR, DARPA, ONR, DIU, SCO, OPNAV, Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), PAE RAS, PEO SUBS, and PEO USC is preferred. Experience with both government acquisition and transactional product sales is desired. Requires a technical background to ensure technical decisions can be vetted and optimal solutions are presented to potential customers. This job is both strategic and tactical, and requires substantial leadership in opportunity capture and business strategy/vision as well as an ability to work independently.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Identifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Partners with the AMP and FCMS Directors (P&L).
  • Builds strong customer partnerships and represents GDMS to the customer community.
  • Advises the Business Segment Directors and the UFC Strategy and Business Development Director on growth strategies and management of resources for future program procurements.
  • Leads and manages the capture process for opportunities within the Navy UxV markets.
  • Identifies and recommends new business opportunities and wins new business to meet the established business growth goals.
  • Formulates strategies and plans to acquire new business.
  • Assists in the development of short and long-range business forecasts, sales plans, and marketing plans.
  • Performs administrative, analytical and research activities in support of the business development, strategic planning, proposal development and marketing functions.
  • Assists in gathering data on competitors and analyzes their prices and methods of operation.
  • Analyzes and researches customer information, product/service preferences, market size, penetration, marketing practices and trends.
  • Exercises creative thinking and idea generation to advance our business performance.
  • Delivers innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers' changing mission needs.
  • Follows industry trends and pursues technology innovation to ensure GDMS' offerings are cost competitive and superior to industry leading capabilities and best practices.
  • Participate in promotional activities and trade shows, working with developers, advertisers, and production managers, to market products and services.
  • Creates a culture of team success and ongoing business and personal goal achievement.
  • 40%-50% travel with ability to conduct business independently and professionally throughout market, including customer sites in San Diego, Gulf Coast, Norfolk, and the DC areas, as well as others as required.
  • The position is home-sited in the Quincy, MA area, DC or Remote.

Preferred Degree Types and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and an ability to rapidly grasp advanced technologies and how they may be applied to satisfying customer requirements is required.
  • An ability to work both independently and within highly motivated teams is required.
  • Experience in business development, systems engineering, and in understanding government contracting approaches is strongly desired.
  • Existing relationships with NAVSEA, NAVWAR, OPNAV and SECNAV resource sponsors, PEO USC, PEO SUBS, PAE RAS, DARPA, ONR, DIU, SCO, and NUWC are a significant plus.
