Job description

Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla has served the greater San Diego community since 1924. For more than a century, we continue to provide distinguished care, including several nationally ranked specialty programs. Scripps La Jolla was the first in San Diego to be designated a Magnet Hospital by the American Nursing Association.

Scripps La Jolla shares a campus with the Barbey Family Emergency and Trauma Center, a Level I Trauma Center, and the renowned Prebys Cardiovascular Institute. We’re also home to notable specialty programs, including cancer care, heart surgery, orthopedic surgery, labor and delivery services (including a Level III neonatal intensive care unit) and a nationally designated Comprehensive Stroke Center.

This is a Full-Time (72 hours per pay period, every 2 weeks) position on a 12-hour Night shift schedule working variable days of the week including weekends and holidays.

Position is located at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla has been one of Southern California’s premier medical centers for more than 90 years and has been consistently recognized for quality patient care and the first hospital in San Diego to be designated a Magnet Hospital by the American Nursing Association for excellence in patient care. 

General Surgery & Medical Acute is a 36 Bed General Surgery and Medical Cardiac unit (5P) located in Prebys Cardiovascular Institute on the Scripps Memorial La Jolla campus.  The patient populations include bariatric, gynecological, colorectal, and medical cardiac patients.

As RN you will monitor and recognize patient vital signs, symptoms, telemetry readings and EKG for abnormal heart rhythms or changes such as Afib, heart blocks, vtach/fib.  Collaborate and establish trust with surgeons, physician assistants, cardiologist general medical practitioners, family nurse practitioners, charge nurse, nurse assistants and other various care team members to achieve optimum patient care.

Position is eligible for New Hire Retention Incentive up to $7K.

The following are not eligible for hiring incentives:

  • Rehires that left Scripps less than 3 years ago

In order to remain eligible for your retention incentive the following criteria must be met:

  • Must remain in original hired FTE Status and Shift (if specified in offer letter)
  • Must remain in original department/specialty
  • Must remain in original Job Title
  • Transfers to other locations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may result in forfeiting remaining incentive bonus unless specifically noted in your offer letter.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing
  • One (1) year of recent RN experience
  • California Registered Nurse License
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • One (1) year RN experience in acute Med/Surg
  • EPIC EHR
