Shift: Full Time, 12-hour, varied shifts, 72 hours per pay period. 
Location: This position covers all 5 of our hospitals as needed (Hillcrest, La Jolla, Encinitas, Torrey Pines, and Chula Vista).

About the Role:

As a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) RN on our Behavioral Health Services team, you'll work alongside licensed mental health professionals and experienced nurses, playing a key role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients battling substance use challenges.

Your Impact:

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as a consultant to physicians and fellow nurses in the care of patients with substance use disorders.
  • Conduct thorough substance use assessments and evaluate patients for withdrawal risks.
  • Recommend and collaborate with MDs on effective withdrawal management strategies.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing and other techniques to engage patients in their treatment journey.
  • Provide direct care, observation, and management of SUD patients, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Take a lead role in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, adjusting as needed to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Handle the de-escalation of behavioral disturbances and manage crises as they arise.
  • Educate and mentor nursing staff on best practices for managing detoxification and substance withdrawal.
  • Act as a referral resource for all Scripps patients seeking treatment recommendations in the community.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of RN chemical dependency experience preferred
  • Current CA RN License
  • Certified Addiction Registered Nurse - CARN - Must obtain within 1 year of employment
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and planning skills
  • BLS from the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years' RN experience within substance abuse
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Certified Addiction Registered Nurse - CARN
