Job description

Description Provide essential support for daily fleet and shop operations by performing general maintenance, repairs and cleaning of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient performance. Help maintain a clean, organized and functional work environment. Operate vehicles and motorized equipment, as needed, to support operational needs.

This is a great opportunity to gain relevant municipal experience and a very good job for those seeking short-term employment. This position is scheduled up to 40 hours per week from April to October. Essential Functions General maintenance, repair, and cleaning of equipment and vehicles.

Maintain shop floors, tools, and shop equipment. Operation of vehicles, motorized equipment, and shop equipment. Pick up and deliver parts from vendors.

Qualifications 18 years age or older Current enrollment or enrolling in an upcoming semester or recently graduated from an automotive/mechanic program. Valid MN driver's license Supplemental Information PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position frequently requires standing, sitting (test driving), walking, lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying, climbing, bending at waist, reaching (extending hand and arms in any direction), handling objects (grasping, turning or otherwise using hands or hand), repetitive hand motion, use of arm muscles over extended periods, use of leg muscles over extended periods, kneeing (bending leg at knee and resting on knee), crawling (moving about on hands and knees), crouching (bending at knees), overhead work (over shoulder height), stationary desk or bench work with neck bent forward are usually required to perform the job. The employee must be able to lift/carry items such as mechanical tools including air tools, starters, alternators, rims and tires, hydraulic cylinders and all parts from awkward positions.

Working with arms and hands above the shoulders for work on steering and suspension components. Pushing and pulling objects in the course of making repairs. Bending and straightening metals.

This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions; working indoors; operating machinery and/or other vehicles; working with chemicals, working near fumes/vapors.
