Search Rater information

What is a search rater?

Search Raters are individuals who evaluate the quality and relevance of search engine results. They typically work remotely and are tasked with assessing whether search results meet specific guidelines and match user intent. Their feedback helps improve search algorithms, ensuring users get accurate and helpful information when they search online. Search Raters must follow detailed criteria set by the search engine and often review a variety of content, including web pages, images, and videos.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a search rater, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Search Rater, you need strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and proficiency in web research, often supported by a high school diploma or higher education. Familiarity with search engines, rating platforms, and sometimes proprietary evaluation tools is typically required. Excellent written communication, time management, and the ability to follow detailed guidelines make someone stand out in this position. These skills are crucial for accurately assessing search engine results and ensuring the quality and relevance of online information.

What are some common challenges search raters face, and how can they overcome them?

Search Raters often encounter challenges such as interpreting ambiguous queries, staying updated with evolving guidelines, and maintaining consistency across large volumes of ratings. To overcome these, it's important to regularly review training materials, participate in any available refresher courses, and refer to official documentation when in doubt. Engaging with support forums or team discussions can also help clarify uncertainties and improve accuracy while working independently.

How do you become a Search Rater?

To become a Search Rater, candidates typically need to complete an online assessment to evaluate their ability to rate search engine results accurately. A good understanding of search engine algorithms, attention to detail, and proficiency with computers are important; some companies also require a high school diploma or equivalent. The role often involves flexible hours and working remotely.

Job description

Omniscient is an organic growth agency that builds revenue-focused organic growth systems for B2B software companies - optimized for both search engines and generative AI.
We pride ourselves on being lean, agile, and experimental. Our team thrives on R&D and innovation, always exploring the smartest ways to deliver exceptional results. We believe in a culture of building and shipping - whether it's client deliverables, new services, or internal tools that keep us ahead of the game.
If you're looking for a role where you'll tackle challenging problems, work with ambitious brands, and help shape the future of organic growth, let's talk.
Learn about the principles that drive how we work and build a company.
About Omniscient Digital
Omniscient Digital is an AI-first B2B organic growth agency working with B2B brands from startups to large household enterprises like SAP, TikTok, and Adobe. We specialize in SEO, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), digital PR, and content strategy.
We are building a paid media practice from the ground up. This is a foundational hire: you will be the first dedicated paid media strategist at Omniscient, responsible for proving the service line and establishing processes.
The Role
You own paid search strategy, execution, and performance for an initial book 3 to 5 B2B clients. Google Ads is the main channel with Microsoft Ads/Bing in the mix.
You work alongside our organic strategists to build integrated growth programs where paid search and organic reinforce each other. You'll sit at the intersection of paid search, SEO, GEO, and content, using paid search to capture commercial intent at the moment it converts, and using everything we already know about our clients' organic and AI-search behavior to inform sharper paid strategy than agencies without that context can build. The application passcode is PAIDISAWESOME.
Responsibilities
Operational Infrastructure
  • Set up Omniscient Digital's Google Ads MCC and Microsoft Ads agency account and define access policy
  • Define and implement client onboarding and offboarding procedures
  • Work with our Financial Controller to establish billing and invoicing flow
  • Implement QA, escalation, and risk procedures

Tech Stack
  • Google Ads direct vs. SA360
  • Tooling for budget management, reporting, and QA
  • Conversion tracking and attribution stack

Campaign Strategy and Execution
  • End-to-end paid search strategy on Google Ads (Search, Performance Max, YouTube, Display) and Microsoft Ads/Bing for B2B clients
  • Build, launch, and optimize full-funnel paid search programs tied to pipeline and revenue goals, not just leads and CPL
  • Manage client budgets ranging from $10K to $100K+ per month
  • Accountability for both efficiency metrics (ROAS, CPL, CAC) and pipeline-stage metrics (cost per opportunity, SQL conversion rate, pipeline velocity)
  • Structured testing programs across keywords, creatives, audiences, bidding strategies, and campaign structures

Integration with Organic Growth
  • Lead paid search strategy that uses our SEO, GEO, and content data as a competitive edge, keyword and SERP intelligence the organic team already builds becomes the sharpest input to your paid search account
  • Capture commercial-intent and bottom-funnel demand
  • Identify paid search opportunities informed by SEO and AI visibility research
  • Identify cross-sell opportunities within existing organic-only accounts and support business development with paid search audits and proposals

Reporting, Analysis, and Client Communication
  • Own weekly and monthly performance reporting with a clear narrative connecting paid search spend to pipeline impact
  • Present results and strategic recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders with business-level context, not just platform metrics
  • Build multi-touch attribution frameworks that tie paid search activity to pipeline and ARR, working with client marketing and sales teams
  • Leverage AI tools and automation to streamline campaign management, reporting, and optimization workflows

Practice Building (0-to-1)
  • Define and document the Omniscient paid media playbook: processes, SOPs, templates, QA checklists, and onboarding flows
  • Establish pricing and packaging recommendations for paid media services based on early engagement learnings
  • Prove unit economics within the first 90 days to build the case for scaling the team
  • Contribute to hiring and onboarding the next 1-2 paid media team members as the practice grows

Hiring & Onboarding
The consultant leads recruiting for Omniscient's first paid search hire:
  • Source candidates through consultant's network and standard channels
  • Lead first-round interviews and technical screens
  • Design and grade a take-home or live audit exercise
  • Make a hire recommendation
  • Lead the first 30 days of onboarding (account walkthrough, system handoff, shadowing)
Requirements
Must-Have
  • 4-6+ years of hands-on paid media experience, with at least 2 years in a B2B SaaS or B2B lead gen context
  • 2+ years in an agency setting, working directly with clients and managing multiple client accounts simultaneously
  • Experience building a paid search function from scratch at an agency
  • Deep proficiency in Google Ads (Search, Performance Max, YouTube, Display) and Microsoft Ads/Bing
  • Proven experience managing $10K to $100K+ monthly paid search budgets with direct accountability for performance
  • Strong command of campaign architecture, bid strategies, audience targeting, conversion tracking, and attribution
  • Experience with full-funnel B2B marketing: demand gen, lead gen, ABM, and pipeline acceleration via paid search
  • Daily use of AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) for campaign optimization, ad copy generation, workflow automation, etc.
  • Self-directed operator who thrives with autonomy and minimal hand-holding
Key Performance Indicators
Your success will be measured against clear outcomes, not activity metrics:
  • Client ROAS and CPL/CAC targets met or exceeded across your book of business
  • Client retention rate above 90% for paid search engagements
  • Documented, repeatable paid search playbook delivered within 90 days
  • Positive service line economics demonstrated by end of 2026
  • 2+ case studies with quantified results within the first 6 months
