What is a Script Translation job?

A Script Translation job involves translating scripts from one language to another while maintaining their meaning, tone, and cultural context. This process is essential for films, TV shows, plays, and other media to ensure accurate localization. Translators must have strong language skills and an understanding of industry terminology. Sometimes, adaptation is required to make dialogues sound natural in the target language.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Script Translation position, and why are they important?

Excelling in script translation requires fluency in at least two languages, a deep understanding of cultural nuances, and strong written communication skills, often supported by a degree in translation, linguistics, or a related field. Familiarity with translation software (such as SDL Trados or MemoQ) and subtitle editing tools is highly valued, and professional certifications like ATA or ITI can be advantageous. Attention to detail, creativity, and the ability to work under tight deadlines are important soft skills. Mastering these competencies ensures accurate, culturally appropriate translations that preserve the intent and tone of the original script while meeting project deadlines.

What are some of the main challenges script translators face in their daily work?

One of the main challenges script translators encounter is accurately capturing the tone, humor, and cultural references of the original script so they resonate with new audiences. Adapting dialogue for natural flow, handling idiomatic phrases, and ensuring time constraints for subtitles can require creative problem-solving and negotiation with production teams. Translators often collaborate closely with editors, directors, and localization specialists to ensure consistency and authenticity throughout the project. Overcoming these challenges is crucial for delivering high-quality translations that support the goals of international film, television, or multimedia projects.

Job description

Summary:
VIAVI (NASDAQ: VIAV) is a global provider of network test, monitoring and assurance solutions for telecommunications, cloud, enterprises, first responders, military, aerospace, and railway. VIAVI is also a leader in light management technologies for 3D sensing, anti-counterfeiting, consumer electronics, industrial, automotive, government and aerospace applications.
We are the people behind the products that help keep the world connected at home, school, work, at play, and everywhere in between. VIAVI employees are passionate about supporting customer success and we welcome people who bring their best every day to the company - to question, to collaborate and to push for solutions that will delight our customers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Strategy & Roadmap
  • Own the end-to-end automation product roadmap for VIAVI TestCenter, spanning open APIs, scripting frameworks, and CI/CD integration
  • Develop a multi-year strategy for AI-assisted test automation - covering intelligent test generation, anomaly detection, and natural language test configuration
  • Define and prioritize automation capabilities aligned to customer workflows: hyperscaler CI pipelines, NEM regression labs, and open-source community needs
  • Evaluate and influence industry standards: OTG, SONiC test suites, IETF benchmarking frameworks, and emerging open-source test toolchains
  • Drive adoption of the Open Traffic Generator (OTG) standard and snappi Python SDK as VIAVI's primary automation-first interface
  • Build and maintain a public-facing roadmap that engages the open-source and developer community transparently

AI-Driven Automation & Developer Experience
  • Champion the integration of AI/ML tooling into TestCenter workflows - including LLM-assisted script generation, intelligent failure analysis, and predictive test coverage
  • Partner with R&D to define APIs, SDKs, and plugin architectures that enable third-party AI and automation tool integration
  • Define the product requirements for AI copilot features within TestCenter: natural language to snappi/OTG script translation, auto-remediation suggestions, and test result summarization
  • Establish KPIs for developer experience: time-to-productivity, API adoption rates, SDK downloads, community engagement metrics
  • Drive usability improvements that reduce time-to-first-test for new users, leveraging AI-powered onboarding flows, contextual help, and smart defaults
  • Build relationships with AI tooling vendors (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Cursor, custom LLM deployments) to explore integration opportunities with TestCenter

Ecosystem & Community Engagement
  • Serve as VIAVI's primary voice in the Open Traffic Generator (OTG) and snappi open-source communities
  • Define VIAVI's open-source contribution strategy - balancing community goodwill, ecosystem influence, and commercial differentiation
  • Engage actively with SONiC community initiatives, including test automation working groups and test harness standardization efforts
  • Monitor and evaluate adjacent automation projects: ONDATRA, OpenConfig, gNMI/gRPC telemetry, and Kubernetes-native test orchestration
  • Build relationships with hyperscaler automation teams (Meta, Microsoft, Google, Amazon) who drive OTG/SONiC adoption

Go-To-Market & Cross-Functional Execution
  • Define GTM strategy for automation portfolio releases: positioning, pricing, packaging (open-source vs. commercial), and launch planning
  • Partner with Marketing to produce developer-focused content: tutorials, GitHub repos, blog posts, and conference talks
  • Develop messaging that resonates with both automation engineers (developers, DevOps, NetOps) and executive buyers (VP Engineering, CTO)
  • Drive analyst and press engagement to position VIAVI as the automation-forward leader in network test
  • Build sales enablement content: battle cards, demo playbooks, integration guides, and ROI models for automation adoption
  • Establish partner ecosystem programs with CI/CD platforms (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and observability vendors

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • 10+ years of experience in product management, developer relations, or technical product ownership in networking, test & measurement, or developer tooling
  • Working knowledge of SONiC test automation infrastructure and the broader SONiC open-source ecosystem
  • Demonstrated understanding of AI/LLM tooling and practical experience applying AI to developer workflows - script generation, test analysis, or natural language interfaces
  • Experience defining and driving CI/CD-integrated test automation strategies for network devices or platforms
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to engage audiences from open-source contributors to C-suite executives
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field

Preferred
  • Prior experience at network test & measurement vendors (VIAVI, Spirent, Keysight/Ixia) or hyperscaler network engineering teams
  • Contributions to open-source networking projects (OTG spec, SONiC, ONDATRA, OpenConfig, or similar)
  • Experience with gNMI/gRPC telemetry, NETCONF/RESTCONF, or OpenConfig-based device programmability
  • Experience building or managing developer communities, SDKs, or open-core commercial products
  • Understanding of Kubernetes-native test orchestration and cloud-native test infrastructure patterns
