Job description

The Assistant Wrestling Coach supports the Head Wrestling Coach in all aspects of administering a competitive NCAA Division III wrestling program. This role helps foster student-athlete development, competitive success, academic achievement, and adherence to institutional and conference expectations. The coach assists in planning practices, recruitment, match preparation, program operations, and building a positive team culture aligned with the university's mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coaching & Player Development
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting daily practices and training sessions.
  • Provide technical instruction, skill development, and individualized coaching for student-athletes.
  • Support scouting of opponents and match strategy preparation.
  • Promote a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Recruitment
  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who align with academic and athletic standards of the institution.
  • Maintain communication with high school coaches, club coaches, and prospective students.
  • Participate in on-campus recruiting visits and off-campus recruiting events.
  • Ensure all recruiting activities comply with NCAA Division III rules.

Program Administration
  • Assist with scheduling, travel logistics, budgeting support, and equipment management.
  • Contribute to program compliance, including roster management, eligibility protocols, and required reporting.
  • Support fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement, and community outreach events.

Student-Athlete Support
  • Encourage academic success through mentoring and collaboration with campus resources.
  • Promote well-being, injury prevention, and responsible decision-making among student athletes.
  • Model inclusive and supportive behavior reflects institutional values.

Other Duties
  • Represent the university at athletics department meetings, campus events, and conference functions as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Head Wrestling Coach or Athletics Director.
