Job description

Summary Join the Issaquah Parks & Community Services team as a Basketball Referee this Fall/Winter. Referees play an important role in creating a fun, safe, and positive experience for youth athletes by officiating games, promoting good sportsmanship, and helping players develop basketball skills and confidence. This position performs officiating and score-keeping duties for basketball games Kindergarten - 10th grade.

Our league emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and encouraging the love of the game. The selected candidates will primarily work on Saturdays, with the season running from December 2026 to mid-March 2027. Basketball knowledge and/or officiating experience is preferred but not required.

All referees will receive training in our league rules and procedures before the season begins, with ongoing support and development provided throughout the season. Must be able to pass a background check to work with children. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to assist in instructional tasks and positive engage with youth athletes. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work weekends, or other irregular hours as necessary. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, athletes, coaches, and the public. Familiarity with basketball and its rules, particularly for those working with older youths.

Prefer applicants with enthusiasm for sports and working with youth. CPR and AED Certifications preferred.
