Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. We are partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline. Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology, Inc. offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the semiconductor manufacturing, electric vehicle, and data center markets. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, the M&T global business unit also includes colleagues working in Arizona, Ohio, Texas, India, and additional project locations around the world.

Job Summary:

Develops, integrates and implements all aspects of project-related Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) (including medical and industrial hygiene), processes, plans, procedures, systems, methods and policies critical to the success of ES&H.  Ensures that complex requirements are properly interpreted by evaluating and applying appropriate ES&H principles and formulating scopes of work, plans, and methodologies suitable for achieving and maintaining compliance with ES&H requirements applicable to the assigned project.  Provides technical assistance and supervisory direction to other environmental, safety and/or health project personnel.  Identifies resources needed to implement the ES&H programs/plans.  The position reports to the Project EHS Manager. #LI-AM3

Major Responsibilities:
  • Develops and supervises the implementation of the ES&H plan for a specific project or facility in accordance with established polices, systems, processes, procedures and methods, client and/or host country requirements and regulations.
  • Supervises and/or performs daily monitoring of work practices of Bechtel and other contractors/ subcontractors.
  • Participates in meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise of project-specific mitigation plans, ES&H training program, and technical reports.
  • Stops work in dangerous situations or conditions having imminent adverse ES&H impact.  Stipulates acceptable work practices that are to be implemented before the work can be resumed.  
  • Coordinates with the Project ES&H Manager on personnel activities, such as recruitment, policy administration, compensation administration, and employee development.
  • Supervises and conducts project incident investigations; documents factors contributing to an incident and prepares required reports. 
  • Actively participate in incident investigations, assisting in defining best practices, corrective actions and closure.
    Evaluating incident reports for quality, consistency, and completeness
  • Develops cross-training for personnel in professional or discipline-specific skills, techniques, and procedures.
  • Supervises and manages the Field ES&H team
  • Supervises, when required, the implementation of project ES&H orientation and training of project manual/non-manual personnel.
  • Interprets applicable ES&H standards and supervises their integration into projects and facilities processes and procedures.  
  • Providing support to project and construction management in implementing and complying with project ES&H requirements and in addressing safety/health issues as they arise during project execution.
  • Working with construction personnel to review risk assessments, JHA’s and project specific mitigation plans, safety and health awareness training programs, and technical and regulatory reports in regard to closing corrective actions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Project ES&H Manager or ES&H Services manager.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in ES&H/Management or related science/engineering discipline with at least 5 years of related experience. In lieu of degree, 10 years of professional related experience.
  • Must be a US citizen.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Intermediate knowledge and use of Microsoft software applications
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong experience in Incident Investigation is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of best professional ES&H practices
  • Proficiency in conducting ES&H training
  • Proficiency in technical writing
  • Previous heavy construction ESH experience is preferred
  • Experience working in Ohio
  • Knowledge of Site specific plans and procedures at Cardinal project
