The School Marketing Specialist is a full-time, non-exempt position, working in a hybrid environment responsible for supporting the creation and execution of Boston Ballet School's (BBS) marketing campaigns to meet enrollment and revenue goals. Campaigns include retention and acquisition activities across all media channels to promote the School's core programs and special initiatives. BBS serves over 5,000 students from toddler to adult in several Boston area locations and generates ~ $10MM annually.


The School Marketing Specialist helps with the day-to-day development and execution of campaign deliverables with a focus on writing and deploying email communications, drafting and trafficking print and out of home advertising, updating website content, and utilizing project management tools to ensure projects remain on schedule. The role will create and share compelling, platform-relevant content designed to promote BBS mission and programming, enhance the customer experience and drive positive brand perception. The ideal candidate will be highly organized with a passion for creative storytelling and an ability to craft messaging to a range of audiences across varied channels.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Campaign Development and Executionย 

  • Stewards the creation of campaign components through all stages including inputting project management assignments in Teamwork, providing/collecting edits, and obtaining final approvals
  • Maintains complex and high volume communication and campaign calendars to ensureย 
  • content is deployed to a wide range of audiences as needed and on schedule
  • Drafts print and Out of Home (OOH) collateral in tandem with BBS and BB Marketing teams
  • Contributes to central copy documents with creative storytelling for varied audiences
  • Provides relevant data, analysis and recommendations to campaign wrap-up reports to inform data-driven recommendations to optimize future campaign strategies and tactics
  • Through consultation with BB Marketing team, ensures consistent and systemic use of recommended tools and best practices
  • Attends key BB Marketing and all BBS team meetings

Email Communications

  • Drafts and deploys retention and acquisition e-communications working in consultation with BB Marketing Communications Specialist, BBS operations teams and aligned with BB best practices
  • Ensures all emails that deploy on behalf of BBS meet customer experience expectations, brand standards, and follow approval processes
  • Recommends opportunities for improvement
  • Produces email campaign performance report and share insights
  • Pulls segmented customer lists for targeted communications from iClassPro and MindBody data basesย 

BBS Website Updates

  • Edits all BBS website content working in consultation with BB Website Marketing Senior Coordinator and aligned with BB best practices to ensure content is accurate and driving towards engagement, enrollment, and revenue goals
  • Follows industry trends and data to optimize for a high quality user experience
  • Recommends opportunities for improvement

School Support

  • Attends key BB Marketing and all BBS team meetings
  • Travels to BBS locations in Boston, Brighton, Brookline, and Newton as needed to support marketing initiatives
  • Supports and attends key BBS initiatives such as Open Houses, student performances; other job-related assignments as required.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is able to work both independently and as part of a team and must possess excellent project management, written, and verbal communication skills. They must have a strong understanding of best practices in retention and acquisition campaign development with knowledge of E-commerce, digital, print and out of home marketing channels. They should demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across departments.ย 

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing/communications/journalism/education/business administration, plus two to three years of professional work experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with excellent attention to detail and work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven track record of strong organizational and project management skills in a fast-paced environment, while driving towards deadlines
  • Ability to "manage up", and guide Directors toward effective strategic decision-makingย 
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; creative and conversational writer who is also a diligent proofreaderย 
  • Familiarity with communicating and interacting with people with disabilities
  • Flexibility, positive attitude, and strong work ethic
  • Excellent computer/technology skills - Microsoft Office, Teamwork, Wordfly or large-scale email delivery system, Tessitura, and CMSs a plus; and strong understanding of digital media and IT
  • Ability to travel to other studio locations as needed
  • Knowledge of dance education, ballet and/or performing arts a plus but not required
  • Fluent Spanish Speaker a plus but not required
  • Weekends and evenings as needed (monitoring and some in-person events)ย

Salary Pay Range: $25-26/hour over a 35-hour work week. This range is a reasonable, good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position at this time, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs, and other considerations permitted by law. At Boston Ballet, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
