What is a scaffolding design engineer?

A Scaffolding Design Engineer is responsible for designing safe and efficient scaffolding structures used in construction, maintenance, and industrial projects. They assess site requirements, create detailed technical drawings, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. Their role includes collaborating with project managers, structural engineers, and safety officers to develop scaffolding solutions tailored to specific projects. Strong knowledge of load calculations, material selection, and engineering principles is essential.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a scaffolding design engineer?

A Scaffolding Design Engineer typically spends their day creating detailed scaffold designs, performing structural calculations, and reviewing project specifications to ensure safety and compliance. They work closely with project managers, site engineers, and construction crews to address practical challenges and provide technical support on-site when necessary. Additionally, they may conduct risk assessments, prepare documentation for approvals, and visit construction sites to oversee the implementation of their designs. This role often requires balancing design quality, project deadlines, and safety considerations in a collaborative team environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a scaffolding design engineer?

To thrive as a Scaffolding Design Engineer, you need a strong background in structural engineering, mathematics, and an understanding of relevant safety regulations, often supported by an engineering degree or equivalent qualifications. Proficiency with design and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or specialized scaffolding design tools, as well as knowledge of industry standards like OSHA or CISRS certification, is important. Critical thinking, strong communication skills, and attention to detail help ensure clear collaboration with construction teams and clients. These abilities are vital for delivering safe, efficient scaffold designs that comply with regulations and meet project needs.

Comp AI

Job description

About Comp AI
Comp AI is reimagining compliance. We're rebuilding a stack that has been manual for far too long, with AI agents designed to handle the busywork. We're one of the fastest growing companies in the world, with more than 1,000 customers in less than 18 months and accelerating.
Our AI agents:
  • Draft and maintain policies based on our customers' tech stack
  • Collect ongoing evidence across code and browser use
  • Assess risks and monitor mission critical vendors
  • Review code and changes to a company's stack
  • Continuously monitor posture against common cyber security frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and GDPR

Compliance is the wedge. What we're building is the whole trust layer with continuous, AI-driven code security, cloud security, device security - owned end to end instead of stitched together between vendors. Always on, and better the longer you use it. We move fast and hold a high bar. The team is small enough that each person's work shows up directly in our product.
The Role
We are hiring a Senior Design Engineer who will single-handedly own the bridge between product design and frontend engineering. In this hybrid role, you won't just hand off flat mockups to engineers - you will design user experiences and write the clean, production-ready React code that brings them to life in GitHub.
You will be the founding architect of Comp AI's design system, maintaining our UI components, global tokens, and interface logic to ensure our fast-shipping engineering team can build cohesive features at scale.
We build with AI, and we expect you to as well. The best design engineers we've met use AI to compress the distance between an idea and a shipped interface - exploring more directions, scaffolding faster, and spending their own time on the judgment calls that actually matter. Speed without a drop in craft is the bar.
Core Responsibilities
  • Own the Design System: Architect, scale, and maintain our foundational design system (components, tokens, styling architecture) in both design tooling and code.
  • End-to-End Product Design: Craft seamless UX flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI screens, and interactive prototypes for complex AI-driven dashboards and workflows.
  • Frontend Implementation: Translate your own designs into high-quality, responsive component code and commit changes directly to our GitHub repository.
  • Developer Enablement: Establish crystal-clear documentation and interactive code specifications so full-stack and backend engineers can seamlessly implement product pages.
  • Maintain Visual Consistency: Continuously audit our live platform to eliminate UI regressions and ensure pixel-perfect execution across the application.
  • Raise the Team's Velocity: Bring AI into the design and build loop - prototyping, code generation, review, documentation - and share what works so the rest of the team ships faster too.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Experience: 7+ years of professional experience in product design, frontend engineering, or a dedicated Design Engineer / UX Engineer role (preferably at a fast-growing B2B SaaS or developer-tooling startup).
  • Expert Designer: Mastery of a modern design tool - Figma, Framer, Penpot, or whatever you do your best work in - including component systems, variants, and interactive prototyping. We care about the output, not the logo on the file.
  • Production Code Capable: Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS/CSS Modules, and Tailwind CSS.
  • AI-Accelerated: Demonstrated use of AI tooling (coding agents, design/prototyping tools, LLM workflows) to move faster without lowering the quality bar. We'll ask you how you use it and where you don't.
  • Git Workflows: Confident managing branches, opening pull requests, resolving conflicts, and navigating GitHub codebases.
  • Systems Thinker: Deep understanding of component-driven architecture, design tokens, responsive web layouts, and state management.

Bonus Points
  • Experience working on open-source software or developer-facing products.
  • Familiarity with UI documentation tools like Storybook.
  • A background or strong interest in AI products, data visualization, or the cyber security/compliance space.
