Job description

Supervise or monitor all projects in progress in the department to ensure that work is executed on time and in accordance with the client's requirements and within company policies, procedures and standards. Supervise the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower and pricing to achieve desired profitability. Supervise the daily operations of a department including staff training, development, and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and adherence to policies and procedure. Plan for and participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and 8 years' practice experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 12 years' related experience.
  • Master's degree or PhD preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • A valid driver's license with acceptable violation history may be required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification or licensure in field of expertise.
  • Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer status preferred.
  • The successful applicant will have experience providing environmental consulting services such as permitting, compliance management, and sustainability strategies. The ideal candidate will have experience managing regulatory compliance programs and sustainability initiatives in the consulting industry. The applicant will be responsible for business development, technical execution of projects, mentoring staff, and supporting departmental performance. Fieldwork may be a necessary component of this role.

    Technical Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Act as the regional leader for sustainability and environmental regulatory compliance projects across the Southern IL, Missouri, and Kansas regions.

    • Partner with Office Managers and Regional Leaders to support opportunities and cross-sell services.

    • Identify environmental risks, compliance gaps, and sustainability opportunities for our clients.

    • Understand and implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities. While this is a leadership position, this position also may entail the performance of site visits, field observations, and field data collection in your area of technical expertise.
    • Manage and execute environmental compliance projects including permitting, regulatory reviews, compliance audits, and reporting.

    • Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies to support permitting, inspections, and compliance reporting requirements.

    • Provide technical leadership and oversight on environmental compliance and sustainability projects to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory alignment.

      Department Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Promote and model Terracon's safety culture by integrating safety into all aspects of project planning and execution, reinforcing accountability at all levels, and ensuring teams consistently follow company safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.

    • Lead by example through active participation in safety initiatives, pre-task planning, and field engagement while supporting continuous improvement of safe work practices across the region.

    • Supervise or monitor projects in progress to ensure work is executed on time, within scope, and in accordance with client requirements and company standards.

    • Support the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to ensure proper scoping, staffing, and pricing

    • With support from the Office Manager and Regional Manager, participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and maintain client relationships. 

    • Assist in developing and managing employee staffing plans including recruitment, selection, onboarding, and mentoring of staff.

    • Support preparation and execution of the annual business plan for the department, including sustainability and compliance service growth

    • Help manage key performance metrics including revenue growth, staff utilization, project billing and collections, and profitability. 

    • Develop an understanding of project-related risks and ensure appropriate controls are in place to protect the company.

    • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects, ensuring consistent quality of services
