Our long-standing Family Owned Business, Full-Service Grocery Store is seeking a Department Manager for our Scratch Made Deli at Green Valley Market Place. Enjoy expressing your creativity, new recipes, and menus for our Hot Foods Bar and Daily Specials!

Position Summary:

Direct and supervise all functions and activities of the Deli Department operations and its Associates at Green Valley Market Place. Responsible for demonstrating customer satisfaction behaviors, to include being friendly, responsive, knowledgeable, and passionate. Responsible for achieving production and budget objectives. Creatively and positively motivate the team to achieve the department’s goals. Including but not limited to Sales, Gross Profit, Associate Engagement, and a positive Customer Experience. Follow and enforce all standard operating policies and procedures with Deli Associates at Green Valley Market Place. Promote and maintain our mission, values, and culture. Provide exceptional communication and build positive relationships with internal and external customers and team members.

Professional Expectations as a Department Manager:

Assist Store Management in increasing sales, not just suggestive selling, but connecting with the customers, getting to know the needs, present items/recipes, sell Green Valley Market Place to the customer.

Present a professional appearance and be a positive role model for all Associates in the department, per Green Valley Market Place Dress Code Policy.

Schedule work hours and time off for ALL department personnel, including Overtime. (Overtime may need to be approved by Store Manager)

Make recommendations on staffing the Department; interviewing and hiring of Department personnel; and promotion of associates;

Assign work to, direct the work of, and train Department personnel;

Complete performance appraisals on all Department personnel;

Day-to-day recommendations and delivery of progressive discipline and recommend termination;

Assign, review, and approve work of all associates under his/her direct supervision;

Take the initiative to foresee work that needs to be completed and see to it that it is completed in a timely fashion;

Utilizing available resources and tools, Department Managers determine appropriate staffing levels for each shift based on business needs.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform all duties in accordance with all Company policies, procedures, and programs, and all Local, State, and Federal laws and regulations, including all environmental, health, safety and security policies, programs, laws, and regulations.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with HAACP and Food Handling procedures.

  • Maintain a clean, neat, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with standards.

  • Clearly communicate and consistently enforce department and Company safety policies and procedures. Ensure that Associates operating applicable equipment are at least 18 years old.

  • Use and maintain equipment in good working order; immediately advise Store Management of any maintenance or equipment problems.

  • Ensure that Associates operating power equipment are 18 years of age or older.

  • Unload trucks and transport merchandise to Deli Department.

  • Maintain all temperature logs and production sheets.

  • Set up and maintain a proper cleaning maintenance schedule for the entire department.

  • Successfully complete training to receive and maintain a Company-recognized Food Safety Certification.

  • Assist with the onboarding of new department Associates, including interviewing, selection, and training. Provide continual training, developmental action planning, and meaningful feedback on job performance to Associates.

  • Maintain an open line of communication and work cooperatively with all team members, in store and other stores.

  • In accordance with Policy and Recipes, responsible for preparation of food products, catering, and special orders, delegate assignments to associates and ensure product availability, meet catering demand, and customer orders.

  • Collaborate with the applicable Director and be creative with product and recipe suggestions.

  • Lead Associates to work cooperatively while encouraging enthusiasm, loyalty, and creativity.

  • Sample new items and seasonal favorites to stimulate Customer interest and demand.

  • Ensure all merchandise is fully stocked and rotated in display cases, shelves, and other applicable displays according to tag allocation and department standards.

  • Ensure all product is blocked and faced in accordance with policy or as assigned.

  • Ensure that featured sale merchandise is signed in accordance with Company and regulatory standards.

  • Understand and utilize all required applications and current technology as relates to Deli Operations.

  • Verify accuracy of invoices to actual product received.

  • Ensure all reports and records are accurate, complete, and retained in accordance with Company policy.

  • Ensure the quality of all products received and secure properly in appropriate storage areas.

  • Ensure the accuracy of item pricing, item locator, and shelf allocation.

  • Understand the impact of department financials and how to adjust department operations to ensure goals are achieved.

  • Understand and adhere to Company shrink guidelines as relates to Deli Operations.

  • Maintain proper staffing to meet projected sales and Customer Experience needs.

  • Complete all applicable department training programs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred, not required.

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of Deli Department leadership, in a Grocery or Retail environment.

  • 1 year experience working as Department Management, preferred.

  • Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language.

  • Ability to perform basic math and basic computer functions.

  • Ability to engage and lead Associates to achieve department goals.

  • Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions, must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Excellent customer service and leadership skills in order to work with a diverse population.

  • Excellent relationship-building skills.

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must have:

  • Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.

  • Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull, and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and environments. (Freezers, Coolers, Heat from Appliances)

  • Ability to work with fresh, dried, and/or processed products, spices, and powdered substances without negative allergic consequences.

  • Ability to climb a ladder to retrieve items from overhead racking and storage areas.

  • Ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs is required.

  • Ability to work in refrigerated coolers and high moisture rooms for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.

Work Environment:

The work environment is based in a retail grocery store. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Work Schedule:

Full-time role equating to 45 hours or more, on average. Hours may fluctuate based upon business needs. Must have the ability to work a varied work schedule that changes and a variety of shifts.
