What Does a Salesforce Developer Do?

As a Salesforce developer, your duties are to work as part of a development team to code software or application solutions on the Salesforce platform or another piece of Salesforce cloud technology. You typically develop these projects on behalf of other businesses, tailoring development to their needs. These solutions may include new storage architecture, effective strategies to distribute data across a business enterprise network, or innovative methods to create more efficient CRM workflow. Your responsibilities also require you to work closely with QA workers and end users to test solutions and ensure that they meet specifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Salesforce Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Salesforce Developer, you need a solid understanding of Salesforce platform features, Apex programming, Lightning components, and a relevant degree or Salesforce certifications like Salesforce Platform Developer I/II. Experience with Salesforce development tools such as Visual Studio Code, Salesforce CLI, and version control systems is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help developers excel within cross-functional teams and meet client needs. These competencies are essential to deliver scalable, secure, and effective Salesforce solutions that drive business success.

Job description

Location: Rochester (hybrid)

ERGO NEXT's mission is to help entrepreneurs thrive. We're doing that by building the only technology-led, full-stack provider of small business insurance in the industry, taking on the entire value chain and transforming the customer experience.

Simply put, wherever you find small businesses, you'll find ERGO NEXT.

Since 2016, we've helped hundreds of thousands of small business customers across the United States get fast, customized and affordable coverage. We're backed by industry leaders in insurance and tech, and we still have room to grow - that's where you come in.

We're looking for an experienced and unstoppable Salesforce Developer to join our team! In this role, you will lead and deliver efficiency-driving projects for our Salesforce users via Apex code, Lightning Web Components, Flows, and more. You will take our SaaS application stack to the next level via integrations, environment management, scalable architecture, and onboarding new technology. Working independently, with teammates, and cross-functionally, you will be a key player in how we reach our aggressive goals, all while maintaining the highest standards of communication, planning, documentation, and accountability. If this sounds like the challenge you've been looking for, we'd love to hear from you!

What You'll Do:

  • Work directly with stakeholders and end-users to understand, plan, and prioritize projects
  • Follow an agile but robust process for developing out-of-the-box and custom Salesforce solutions
  • Contribute your expertise to design discussions, quarterly planning, troubleshooting, and more
  • Respond quickly and effectively to bugs or adverse events in our environments, addressing root causes
  • Step outside of Salesforce to contribute on or lead other information system initiatives where appropriate
  • Continuously apply and expand your knowledge about NEXT as a business

What We Need:

  • 5+ years of Salesforce development experience, including Apex, LWC, Aura, Flow, etc.
  • Experience with Sales Cloud
  • Impeccable code quality, stability, readability, and efficiency
  • Proven record of initiating, designing and implementing projects that focus on improving operational processes and future development potential
  • A people person, a proficient problem solver, someone who quickly adapts to new technologies
  • Strong leadership and ownership capabilities, and the ability to work independently
  • Flexible skillset and mindset, always willing to try a new technology or approach
  • Ability to thrive in a global, competitive company where priorities can change suddenly

Unstoppable Qualities:

  • Experience working in legacy code environments
  • REST API and integration experience (Workato, Dell Boomi, Mulesoft, etc.)
  • AI enthusiast. Experience using Cursor or other AI tools a plus
  • Thinks like a QA engineer and develops ways to test code exhaustively, but quickly
  • Builds quality work and quality relationships
