What are Sales Operations roles in a remote setting?

Sales Operations in a remote setting involve supporting and optimizing a company's sales processes from a location outside of a traditional office. Professionals in these roles handle tasks such as managing sales data, creating reports, streamlining workflows, and coordinating with sales teams to enhance productivity. Remote Sales Operations specialists use digital tools to collaborate, track performance metrics, and implement strategies that help sales teams meet their goals. Their work ensures that the sales organization runs efficiently, even when team members are distributed across various locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sales Operations professional in a remote setting, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Operations professional working remotely, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in sales data analysis, and a background in business, finance, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, data visualization tools, and Excel is typically required, and certifications in Salesforce or similar systems are advantageous. These competencies ensure efficient sales processes, data-driven decision-making, and seamless teamwork across distributed sales organizations.

What Are Remote Jobs in Sales Operations?

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as the primary liaison between sales, demand planning, and trade marketing, ensuring alignment on distribution changes, promotional schedules, and new product launches.
  • Business Insights: Leverage syndicated data (IRI, Nielsen, etc.) and historical sales trends to identify risks, opportunities, and growth levers across categories and customers.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee annual volume plan targets, SKU rationalization, pallet/shipper orders, and aging inventory management, ensuring smooth execution in market.
  • Executive Reporting: Deliver clear and actionable reporting on forecasts, trade spend, and sales performance to senior leadership, highlighting variances and recommended actions.
  • Strategic Projects: Lead annual financial planning inputs, support IBP reviews, and develop sales meeting materials to guide business strategy and execution.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in forecasting, planning, or sales operations (CPG industry strongly preferred).
  • Proven ability to analyze complex data sets and translate into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort with syndicated data tools (IRI, Nielsen POS & panel).
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of driving cross-functional initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
