Peak Energy

Job Title: Sales Engineer

Location: Burlingame, CA (Preferred) or Broomfield, CO

Department: Commercial (Projects Team)

Reports to: Director of Project Engineering

Position Type: Full-time

About the Company

Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven Sodium-Ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid.

Sodium-Ion is cheap, readily available and safe, making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market.

Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, Apple, Powin, Enovix, Zipline, Solid Power, and Fluence. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners such as TDK Ventures and Eclipse Ventures.

We are a team of engineers, operators, entrepreneurs, and partners driven by a shared ambition to set the new performance standard for renewable energy and grid resilience.

About the Role – Sales Engineer

As a Sales Engineer, you'll own the technical side of Peak's opportunities from the first customer conversation through contract signature. You'll work with prospective customers to define the commercial and technical fit for Peak's battery systems, build the business case, lead preliminary design discussions, and negotiate the technical scope, schedule, and performance terms that carry into execution. This is a highly cross-functional role. You'll work side by side with Sales, Project Engineering, Project Managers, Finance, and our internal cell and ESS engineering teams to move opportunities through the sales cycle and hand off projects that are technically sound, cost-effective, and ready to build.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Size and configure Peak's battery systems to the customer's use case, and build the performance and cost models that support the business case
  • Develop a deep understanding of Peak's energy storage technology and provide sales teams with technical and financial modeling support and product configuration guidance to drive successful sales
  • Lead discussions with customers and Peak's internal teams to outline the preliminary design for each opportunity
  • Work with the customer and Peak's sales team to negotiate technical contracts (scope, schedule, and performance guarantees for both sales and services agreements)
  • Interface with internal stakeholders (Sales, Product Management, Project Engineering, and Project Management) and external parties (utilities, IPPs, AHJs, contractors, and end customers) to ensure consistent communication across all stakeholders
  • Build an understanding of regional energy markets, utilities, and customer needs
  • Define and disseminate functional requirements to internal business and engineering colleagues to aid in market entry planning, product roadmap, and new feature development
  • Build and maintain the technical sales tools and support materials that streamline and scale sales

What You'll Bring (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in engineering for battery or renewable energy projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working on or supporting utility-scale power projects.
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering, construction, and permitting/code compliance concepts.
  • Experience reviewing and defining technical scopes of work and supporting contract negotiation.
  • Comfort executing multiple projects and tasks in parallel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, with the ability to adapt style and vocabulary to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Strong Excel skills, including building technical and financial models, plus working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.
  • Able to track quickly changing market conditions across storage funding, product development, and the competitive landscape.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to cost, constructability, and bankability.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Peak Energy is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We strongly encourage women, people of color, and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. We value skills, potential, and perspective over specific credentials. If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't look perfect on paper, we still want to hear from you.

Our Core Values

  • Speed Through Focus - Move fast but understand why. Focus on the goal, don't sacrifice quality.
  • Mission Over Self - It's about the greater good; confident humility. Take ownership and accountability.
  • Face the Brutal Truth - Transparency, honesty, big picture curiosity. Fearless decision making.
  • Be a Good Person - Kindness, collaboration and teamwork.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $210,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. Our competitive benefits package includes:

  • Flexible time off
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Strong 401(k) plan
  • Equity opportunities
  • Many great work perks

Join us to thrive in a supportive environment while making a meaningful impact in the energy sector!
