What is a sales development trainee?

Sales Development Trainees are entry-level professionals who support a company's sales team by identifying and qualifying potential leads. They often make initial contact with prospects, assess their needs, and schedule meetings for more senior sales representatives. This role is designed to provide foundational sales experience and training, helping trainees develop essential skills in communication, lead generation, and sales processes. Over time, Sales Development Trainees may advance to more senior sales roles within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales development trainee?

To thrive as a Sales Development Trainee, you need strong communication skills, a foundational understanding of sales principles, and typically a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools like Salesforce and proficiency in email and phone outreach platforms are commonly required. Resilience, curiosity, and a proactive attitude help individuals stand out in this fast-paced role. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively generating leads, building client relationships, and driving the early stages of the sales pipeline.

What are some typical challenges faced by sales development trainees during their initial months, and how can they overcome them?

Sales Development Trainees often face challenges such as mastering cold outreach techniques, quickly learning product details, and handling frequent rejections from prospects. Building confidence in communication and developing resilience are key to overcoming these hurdles. Many companies provide mentorship, regular training sessions, and performance feedback to support trainees during this learning curve. Proactively seeking feedback from experienced team members and practicing pitches can help accelerate progress and build essential sales skills.

Can I start a sales development trainee career with no experience?

Sales development trainee roles often do not require prior experience, as they focus on training and developing skills such as communication, prospecting, and using CRM tools. Job description

Sales Agent Trainee

Athletic Mindset | B2B Direct Sales | Supplemental Insurance | Local Territory

Built for People Who Value Growth and Teamwork

At Allegiant Business Group, we believe the strongest teams are built through consistency, trust, and people supporting one another. Many of our agents come from athletic or structured backgrounds because they understand discipline, coachability, and growing together with the team.

If you're looking for a career where collaboration, mentorship, and personal development matter, you'll feel at home here.

The Opportunity

This full-time independent contractor B2B direct sales role is ideal for individuals ready to apply their work ethic in a people-focused environment. You'll meet with local business owners and employees face-to-face, helping them understand supplemental insurance options that protect their teams and families.

You'll build your business within a proven system that emphasizes training, mentorship, and shared success. This role offers flexibility and independence while still providing structure, guidance, and a strong support network.

No prior insurance experience is required — we focus on mindset, integrity, and a willingness to learn.

What You'll Do
  • Meet with decision-makers at small and mid-size businesses

  • Present supplemental insurance options in clear, enrollment-style meetings

  • Build lasting relationships through follow-up and service

  • Maintain accurate client and activity records in Salesforce

  • Work closely with mentors to set goals and grow steadily

  • Expand your territory through referrals and community connections

Training & Development

We invest heavily in people:

  • Hands-on field training and ride-alongs

  • Product and sales education through guided learning modules

  • Health & Life licensing support (goal within 90 days)

  • Ongoing mentorship, feedback, and leadership development

Compensation & Structure
  • Commission-based income with performance bonuses

  • Weekly base draw available as you build your book of business

  • Uncapped earning potential tied to consistency and growth

  • Incentive trips, recognition, and long-term advancement opportunities

  • Flexible schedule with autonomy over how you manage your territory

  • Agents average $65,000–$85,000 per year

Ideal Candidate

You may be a great fit if you are:

  • Coachable, reliable, and growth-oriented

  • Comfortable building relationships face-to-face

  • Motivated by purpose and people, not just numbers

  • Able to manage your time and follow systems

  • Interested in building a long-term career

  • Willing to obtain a Health & Life license (support provided)

Ready to Grow With Us?
