Nestled in the rolling hills of Virginia's wine and equestrian country, Salamander Middleburg is one of the nation's premier luxury resorts. We are seeking a driven, strategic sales professional to generate new group business, build lasting client relationships, and contribute to the continued success of our award-winning resort.

Position Summary

The Small Group Sales Manager is responsible for driving group room revenue through proactive sales efforts, strategic prospecting, and relationship development. This role focuses on securing small group business, executive retreats, leadership meetings, and corporate gatherings while maximizing occupancy during need periods and shoulder seasons.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated sales professional with a proven track record of generating new business, closing group sales, and delivering exceptional client experiences within a luxury hospitality environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesSales & Revenue Generation
  • Drive group room revenue within the small group market segment.
  • Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities through prospecting, referrals, networking, and third-party channels.
  • Target corporate groups, executive retreats, board meetings, leadership offsites, and incentive travel programs.
  • Strategically fill need dates, shoulder periods, and calendar gaps to maximize occupancy and revenue.
  • Achieve and exceed established sales goals and revenue targets.
Business Development & Client Relations
  • Manage the complete sales cycle from lead generation through contract execution.
  • Develop customized proposals tailored to client objectives and resort offerings.
  • Conduct property tours highlighting accommodations, dining, spa, equestrian, and meeting experiences.
  • Build and maintain relationships with executive assistants, meeting planners, corporate decision-makers, and key accounts.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the sales process and ensure a seamless transition to Conference Services.
Brand Representation
  • Represent Salamander's Forbes Five-Star culture and service standards in every interaction.
  • Deliver personalized, high-touch service that exceeds client expectations.
  • Foster long-term client relationships that drive repeat business and referrals.
  • Maintain knowledge of market trends, competitive activity, and industry developments.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive sales experience in luxury hospitality, resort sales, or group sales required.
  • Proven success generating revenue and closing group business in a competitive sales environment.
  • Experience selling group room blocks, executive retreats, and corporate meetings.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, prospecting, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset and strong business acumen.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Delphi FDC, Opera PMS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of hotel operations, revenue management, contract negotiations, and pricing strategies.
  • Luxury resort or Forbes-rated hospitality experience strongly preferred.
