HOTEL DIRECTOR OF FINANCE – LUXURY RESORT & SPA

Location: Middleburg, Virginia

Salamander Middleburg is a Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond luxury resort situated on 340 acres in the heart of Virginia’s horse and wine country. Featuring luxurious accommodations, award-winning dining, a world-class spa, extensive meeting space, and exceptional guest experiences, Salamander is recognized as one of the premier luxury destinations in the United States.

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Hotel Director of Finance to join our Executive Committee and help drive the continued financial success of our luxury resort.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Hotel Director of Finance serves as the resort’s senior financial leader and a key member of the Executive Committee. This position is responsible for overseeing all accounting and finance functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, internal controls, audit compliance, payroll oversight, and long-term financial planning.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative business partner who can provide strategic financial leadership while supporting operational excellence and an exceptional guest experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of hotel accounting and finance operations.
• Direct budgeting, forecasting, annual business planning, and month-end close processes.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, P&L performance, forecasts, and variance reports.
• Provide strategic financial guidance and recommendations to the Managing Director and Executive Committee.
• Partner with department leaders to drive profitability, labor management, productivity, and expense control initiatives.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, treasury, and cash management functions.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, tax regulations, and audit requirements.
• Lead annual operating and capital budget preparation.
• Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities to improve revenue, profitability, and operational efficiency.
• Manage cash flow, capital expenditures, vendor contracts, and risk management initiatives.
• Coordinate internal and external audits and maintain strong relationships with ownership, corporate leadership, and business partners.
• Recruit, develop, coach, and mentor a high-performing finance team.
• Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 3 or more years of progressive finance leadership experience within hospitality, hotel, resort, or full-service lodging environments.
• Previous experience as a Director of Finance, Assistant Director of Finance, Controller, or comparable finance leadership role preferred.
• Strong knowledge of hotel accounting, hospitality finance, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash management, internal controls, audit management, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), payroll administration, labor analysis, and operational performance metrics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
• Experience with hospitality financial systems and reporting tools such as ProfitSword, Sage, ADP, PMS systems, and other hotel accounting or business intelligence platforms preferred.
• Proven ability to analyze financial data and influence business decisions through strategic recommendations.
• Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
• Luxury hospitality experience preferred but not required.
