Job description

Gas Safety Coordinator

NorthStar Energy Solutions is seeking a Gas Safety Coordinator to support safe work practices across natural gas pipeline, distribution, and facility construction projects. This role is intended for individuals with direct, hands-on experience in gas construction environments who understand the operational realities of working on active gas systems.

The Gas Safety Coordinator will work closely with field crews, supervisors, and project leadership to promote safe execution, ensure regulatory compliance, and reinforce a safety-first culture in pipeline and gas utility environments. Craft experience in pipeline construction, gas distribution, or related field operations is highly valued.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide on-site safety support for gas distribution projects including main installation, service tie-ins, meter sets, regulator stations, and system upgrades
  • Participate in daily job briefings and hazard assessments focused on live gas environments, excavation safety, and public right-of-way work
  • Monitor and reinforce safe practices during hot taps, purging, pressure testing, and tie-in operations on active distribution systems
  • Support safe excavation practices around existing underground utilities, including trench protection and utility locates
  • Identify unsafe conditions in congested, high-traffic, or residential work zones and coordinate corrective actions with supervisors
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, DOT 49 CFR 192 requirements, company procedures, and client safety expectations
  • Assist with incident, near-miss, and leak response documentation and follow-up
  • Reinforce a safety-first culture through direct field engagement with distribution crews, foremen, and subcontractors

What You'll Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience working in natural gas distribution construction or maintenance environments
  • Craft background such as gas distribution foreman, pipelayer, service technician, gas utility crew member, or similar field role
  • Strong understanding of live gas work practices including service tie-ins, hot taps, purging, pressure testing, and meter/regulator installations
  • Knowledge of trench safety, excavation standards, underground utility coordination, and work within public right-of-way environments
  • Familiarity with DOT 49 CFR 192 requirements and OSHA construction safety standards
  • Ability to identify gas-specific hazards and work safely around active distribution systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with field crews and supervisors
  • Willingness to travel to job sites within the service territory as required
  • OSHA 10 or 30, First Aid/CPR, and gas operator qualification (OQ) experience preferred
  • Prior safety coordination experience preferred but not required
