What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SaaS SDR (Sales Development Representative) in a remote role, and why are they important?

To thrive as a SaaS SDR in a remote position, you need strong sales acumen, prospecting abilities, and familiarity with SaaS products, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. Proficiency with CRM systems (like Salesforce or HubSpot), sales engagement tools, and video conferencing platforms is standard. Outstanding communication, self-motivation, and resilience are crucial soft skills for building relationships and managing remote workflows. These competencies drive pipeline growth, ensure effective outreach, and support success in a competitive, virtual sales environment.

What does a SaaS SDR (Sales Development Representative) do when working remotely?

A SaaS SDR (Sales Development Representative) working remotely is responsible for identifying and qualifying potential customers for a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company. Their main tasks include researching leads, reaching out via email, phone, or social media, and setting up meetings between prospects and account executives. Working remotely requires strong communication and organizational skills, as SDRs often collaborate with sales teams using digital tools. Success in this role comes from building relationships, understanding client needs, and maintaining a steady pipeline of qualified leads.

What are some common challenges faced by remote SaaS SDRs and how can they be overcome?

Remote SaaS Sales Development Representatives (SDRs) often face challenges such as maintaining motivation without in-person supervision, managing time effectively across different time zones, and building rapport with prospects virtually. To overcome these, successful SDRs leverage clear daily routines, utilize collaboration and CRM tools to stay connected with their team, and engage in regular video calls for training and support. Consistently communicating with managers and peers also helps maintain accountability and fosters a sense of belonging, even when working remotely.

Job description

About LearnLux

LearnLux is the leading provider of workplace financial wellbeing, blending fiduciary digital planning with access to one-on-one guidance from Certified Financial Planner professionals. Our award-winning program helps employees navigate critical financial decisions from budgeting and benefits elections to equity compensation, home buying, and retirement so they can feel confident about their money and focused at work. Advanced reporting helps our partners understand impact, driving outcomes like reduced financial stress, increased productivity, and improved retention.

We're building LearnLux with intention. We move quickly, operate with a high bar for quality, and value people who take ownership of their work. If you're energized by solving new problems, taking accountability, and pushing yourself to do your best work every day, you'll find this a rewarding environment.

We're a venture-backed company that has raised over $35M to date and is supported by experienced investors and long-term partners. We're a growth-focused business building for scale, and we're excited by the opportunities and challenges that come with that journey.

The Role

As a Sales Development Representative at LearnLux, you'll generate new business through outbound prospecting and inbound lead follow-up, building the pipeline that fuels growth.

This role is for someone who's successfully done the SDR job before. You'll be measured on qualified meetings held.

This role is remote within the U.S. with an expectation of conference travel several times per year. This role reports to the Director of Sales.

What you'll do
  • Research target employers and identify the right decision-makers within the ICP (ideal customer profile).
  • Build and execute multi-touch outreach sequences, continuously testing messaging to improve response and conversion rates.
  • Generate qualified pipeline by prospecting into target accounts through cold calls, personalized emails, and LinkedIn outreach. This role includes a daily cold call minimum.
  • Respond quickly to inbound leads from marketing campaigns, content, and events.
  • Book qualified meetings for Account Executives and ensure smooth handoffs with strong context.
  • Consistently meet or exceed monthly targets for qualified meetings completed.
  • Maintain disciplined CRM hygiene in HubSpot. Log activity in real time, keep contact and company records accurate.
  • Stay current on the employee benefits and financial wellbeing landscape.
  • Use AI tools in your day-to-day work.
You should bring
  • 1+ years of SDR/BDR experience, ideally in B2B SaaS. Experience selling to HR, Benefits, or Total Rewards buyers within HR tech or digital health is a strong plus.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding outbound activity and qualified-meeting targets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft personalized, compelling outreach.
  • Comfort and confidence with cold calling and multi-channel prospecting.
  • Experience with CRM and sales engagement tools (e.g., HubSpot, Apollo, or similar).
  • Strong research and organizational skills, with the discipline to manage a high volume of activity.
  • Coachable, resilient, and self-motivated. You welcome feedback and move fast without losing the details.
  • Passion for improving employees' financial wellbeing.
  • Experience using AI tools.
LearnLux is a fit for you if you
  • Thrive in fast-moving environments and enjoy building in moments of change. We operate with urgency, and roles, priorities, and approaches evolve as we grow.
  • Like wearing multiple hats and helping define the path forward. At LearnLux, roles evolve as we grow, and employees often help create clarity, structure, and direction where it didn't previously exist.
  • Take initiative and don't wait to be asked. You see problems as opportunities and are comfortable stepping in to move work forward.
  • Are energized by ambiguity and willing to make decisions with imperfect information. We learn quickly by doing, and pace is a competitive advantage for us.
  • Enjoy being hands-on and owning work end to end. While strategic thinking matters, execution, follow-through, and accountability are what drive impact here.
  • Are motivated by high standards and continuous improvement. As we hit new milestones, we intentionally raise the bar on quality, ownership, and outcomes.
  • Value clear, frequent communication and collaboration. As a remote team, staying aligned through proactive communication is core to how we operate.
Benefits
  • Remote-first company structure
  • Medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k)
  • Mental wellbeing (Talkspace)
  • Financial wellbeing (LearnLux)
  • Paid vacation and sick leave
  • Paid sabbatical after 5 years of service
  • A supportive, inclusive team culture
  • Opportunities for continuous learning and growth at a fast-growing startup at the cutting edge intersection of financial wellness and technology
