Job description

Position Overview:

StepStone is seeking a driven and analytical Associate or Senior Associate to support the growth and operational success of its technology platform, SPI by StepStone. This hybrid role combines new client acquisition with sales operations, focusing on expanding the institutional investor client base while improving the efficiency and effectiveness of sales processes. The successful candidate will identify, engage, and convert prospective institutional investor clients while supporting sales operations through process optimization and performance analysis. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the institutional investor landscape and a proven track record of selling data, analytics, or reporting solutions to limited partners (LPs).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage a robust pipeline of prospective institutional investor clients including pension funds, endowments, foundations, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and other organizations
  • Execute a full-cycle prospecting motion: identify and research target accounts, initiate outreach, conduct discovery calls, deliver product demonstrations, manage the evaluation process, and close new subscriptions
  • Develop outbound strategies leveraging industry conferences, events, referrals, and direct outreach to generate qualified pipeline
  • Partner with marketing and product teams to develop account-targeted messaging and campaigns that resonate with LP buyers
  • Maintain current knowledge of the competitive landscape
  • Provide structured feedback to product and leadership on buyer needs, feature gaps, pricing sensitivity, and competitive dynamics encountered in the market
  • Monitor trends in LP reporting, private markets data standards (e.g., ILPA templates), and technology adoption among allocators to inform go-to-market strategy
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date CRM records (Salesforce) for all prospect activity, pipeline stage, and forecasted close dates
  • Coordinate with finance, legal, and product teams to support contract management, pricing workflows, and product onboarding and support subscription renewal processes
  • Report regularly on pipeline health, conversion metrics, and new business results to senior leadership
  • Develop quarterly territory plans that set targets by segment, channel, and geography

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist on broader SPI by StepStone platform initiatives, account management, contributing to enhancements to platform
  • Assists with projects, as needed

Qualifications

  • Minium of 3 years of experience in a sales, business development, or client-facing commercial role, preferably in the private market industry
  • Demonstrated experience selling SaaS, data, analytics, or reporting solutions to institutional investors, asset allocators, or related financial services organizations
  • Strong understanding of private markets, LP reporting requirements, fund performance analytics, and the allocator operating environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to command credibility with sophisticated institutional audiences
  • Prior experience at or deep familiarity with private markets data and technology providers
  • Proven ability to manage and close complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise sales cycles
  • Hands-on experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM platform, including pipeline management, reporting configuration, and workflow administration
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to build and maintain sales reporting, forecasting models, or operational dashboards
  • Highly motivated self-starter who quickly adapts to a fast-changing environment to learn recent technologies and tools
  • Bachelor degree required

  • Existing network of LP-side relationships across institutional investors
  • Experience with enterprise pricing, contract negotiation, and legal review processes

Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000

The salary range is an estimate of pay for this position.  Actual pay may vary depending on job-related factors that can include location, education, skill, and experience.  The salary range does not include any benefits or other forms of possible compensation that may be available to employees.
