The Role: 

The Director of Rooms oversees all Rooms Division operations, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Guest Services, and Night Audit. This role ensures exceptional guest service, maximizes room revenue and occupancy, and maintains compliance with operational standards. Responsibilities include managing departmental performance, forecasting revenue and labor expenses, overseeing large group events, monitoring key operational metrics, and driving process improvements. The Director of Rooms also leads major projects, conducts financial and operational reviews, and recruits, trains, and develops team members to achieve departmental goals and enhance overall hotel performance.

The ideal candidate is a passionate hospitality professional with strong luxury hotel experience, a hands-on leadership style, solid business acumen, and a commitment to delivering memorable guest experiences while fostering a positive and collaborative team culture.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all Rooms Division operations, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Guest Services, Transportation, and Night Audit.
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term operational plans that drive guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, labor costs, inventory controls, and revenue performance to achieve profitability goals.
  • Analyze operational and financial metrics, occupancy trends, guest feedback, and performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and maximize results.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain department standards, policies, procedures, and service initiatives that support brand expectations and operational excellence.
  • Lead service recovery efforts, resolve guest concerns, and ensure exceptional guest experiences through proactive problem-solving and quality assurance.
  • Partner with the General Manager and leadership team to develop business strategies, marketing initiatives, capital projects, renovations, and special hotel initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with brand standards, safety regulations, sanitation requirements, and company policies across all Rooms Division departments.
  • Recruit, train, coach, develop, and retain high-performing managers and team members while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular property inspections, operational reviews, and departmental meetings to ensure service excellence, cleanliness, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with guests, team members, ownership groups, and corporate leadership.
  • Oversee administrative and reporting functions, including forecasting, incident reporting, inventory management, contract compliance, and required corporate and governmental reporting.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen and strategic thinking.
  • Drive results through accountability, sound decision-making, and effective execution.
  • Lead change initiatives and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Foster collaboration and positive working relationships across departments.
  • Coach and counsel managers and team members to consistently deliver brand service standards.
  • Champion talent development, succession planning, employee engagement, and recognition programs.

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed.Furthermore, employee responsibilities andjobdescriptions are subject to review and revision. 

Experience Required: 

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
  • 5 years or more of progressive hotel Rooms leadership experience
  • Service oriented style with professional presentations skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service and ability to improve the bottom line
  • Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills
  • Maintain communications with Corporate Staff

Experience Preferred: 

  • Hyatt experience is preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or related work experience relating to directing the Front Office and Housekeeping Department
