Job Summary:
The Nurse Tech 1 GATE, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides direct and indirect patient care and performs selected nursing duties and procedures as assigned (excluding medication administration) while preparing for the role of Registered Nurse.
Education:
Required:
Will consider a nursing student (RN or LPN) within one year of graduating from an accredited nursing program.

Department Position Summary:
The Nurse Tech 1 under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides direct and indirect patient care and performs selected nursing duties and procedures as assigned (excluding medication administration) while preparing for the role of Registered Nurse.
Duties may include but are not limited to the performance of phlebotomy, EKG, procedure tray set-up, assistance in implementation of trauma and cardiovascular protocols. This position is also responsible for learning the management of multiple emergency patients while recognizing the importance of the basic ABC's and prioritizing treatment needs. The Nurse Tech 1 must meet the Emergency Department standards of documentation and show potential for growth and development as a Registered Nurse.
The Nurse Tech 1 must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
