A Nurse Tech Trainee could be the perfect entry level position for you as it is similar to a patient care tech or C.N.A. Not only will you be helping our patients feel and get better, but this position is often a stepping stone toward nursing school and other healthcare professions. You will be providing safe, efficient, and therapeutic patient care services under direction of Licensed Nurse and Medical Staff.  Please note you will receive training to perform the duties similar to a C.N.A., but this training program will not provide a C.N.A. certification.

What does a Nurse Tech do?

  • Assist with patient care
  • Help take vital signs, height, weight, and intake/output measurements
  • Maintain patient comfort and safety
  • Maintain stocks of equipment and medical supplies necessary for patient care
  • Adhere to safety, environmental, and infection control standards
  • Take on miscellaneous job-related and administrative duties as assigned
  • Performing other duties related to patient activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, feeding, transferring), such as the below:  

    • Assisting with showers, bed baths, or sponge baths
    • Ensuring skin care, safety, and privacy
    • Helping patients choose and put on clothing
    • Assisting with adaptive clothing for patients with limited mobility
    • Brushing teeth/dentures
    • Combing hair, shaving, nail care (non-diabetic patients)
    • Helping patients use the toilet, bedpan, urinal, or commode
    • Assisting with hygiene and incontinence care
    • Helping patients move from bed to chair or wheelchair
    • Assisting with walking, using gait belts or walkers
    • Repositioning in bed to prevent pressure ulcers
    • Assisting with meals and snacks
    • Feeding patients who are unable to feed themselves
    • Monitoring intake and reporting concerns
    • Assisting with moving between surfaces (e.g., bed to wheelchair)
    • Using proper body mechanics and transfer devices

Shift Information

  • Training program will be a mix of 8-hour (0800-1700) and 12-hour shifts (Day Shift 0645-1845 or Night Shift 1845-0645)
  • Weeks 1-2 of the training program will be 8-hour shifts (0800-1700)
  • Week 3 and after will be 12-hour varied shifts (Day Shift 0645-1845 or Night Shift 1845-0645)
  • Will be required to work alternate weekends
  • Preferred shift will not be guaranteed
  • May be required to work varied shifts (12-hour Day Shift or 12-hour Night Shift)

If eligible, you may be enrolled in the Ventura County Works On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program, which is designed to support your participation in the Nurse Tech Trainee Program and enhance your success throughout the program.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree in related field
