Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Structural Engineer specializing in temporary works, heavy lift, and heavy haul rigging engineering. This role provides senior-level technical expertise in the design, analysis, testing, and implementation of engineered lifting and hauling systems used in the construction of power plants, including advanced nuclear facilities. The position requires a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) who can lead complex engineering efforts, collaborate effectively with construction operations, and ensure safe, efficient, and compliant execution of field activities.

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design Build Management team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs, and minimize risk. Particularly on large design-build projects, clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. Location
Primary office location: The Woodlands, TX with the ability to have a hybrid schedule. This role requires occasional travel to project sites, fabrication yards, or testing locations (approximately 1-2 times per month). Field conditions may involve exposure to active construction environments, heavy equipment, and variable weather.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and structural analysis of temporary works systems, including shoring, falsework, lifting frames, rigging assemblies, heavy-haul components, and other engineered construction means and methods.
  • Coordinate closely with construction operations, field engineers, and project teams to ensure constructability, safety, and alignment with project execution strategies.
  • Management of projects including design, fabrication, and testing of rigging products.
  • Oversee development of layouts, specifications, and procedures for testing heavy lift and heavy haul components.
  • Provide peer reviews, design checks, and technical oversight for temporary works and rigging designs completed by others.
  • Support bid-phase and early design-stage efforts by identifying solutions, construction sequencing considerations, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in structural analysis, rigging engineering, and Kiewit temporary works practices.
  • Stamp and seal engineering packages within professional licensure limits and Kiewit engineering procedures.
  • Ensure deliverables meet client and project specifications

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one U.S. state, with ability to obtain additional licensure as needed.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant engineering experience, with strong background in temporary works, heavy lift/heavy haul engineering, or complex structural design.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software and engineering drafting/modeling tools (AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, field execution constraints, rigging fundamentals, and engineered lifting best practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with ASME, AISC, OSHA, and related standards.
  • Regular, reliable attendance. Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to develop practical engineered solutions.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and engineering standards compliance.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under schedule constraints.

HIghly Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting engineering and construction activities for nuclear power projects.
  • Advanced expertise in fabrication of steel structures, heavy lift rigging, and/or heavy-haul transport systems.
  • Eperience in design, fabrication, and testing of mechanical systems (hydraulic powered winches, rams, motors, etc)
  • Leadership and mentoring capabilities.
