Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:The Server Administrator 3 position has technical strengths and helps with plan review and implementation of IT operations initiatives. This role can serve as a technical leader in a focus area; works with the team to deliver stable, reliable, and flexible systems services to support all business processes; and keeps abreast of new and emerging technologies in order to implement strategic initiatives for new or enhanced services as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the maintenance and administration of multiple core internal server infrastructure components including Active Directory, PKI, VMware vSphere, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, System Center Operations Manager, System Center Configuration Manager, HPC systems, file servers, print servers, and misc. application servers
Maintain and administer core internal storage, backup, and recovery systems
Provide expert-level support for at least one major technology system and secondary support of multiple others
Act as a point of contact for business analysts with line of business applications
Schedule and coordinate server and storage hardware maintenance windows with support personnel
Coordinate application deployment with support personnel and project managers
Remote support and on-call hours may be required on a rotational basis
Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Computer Science or other technical degree from a four year accredited college/university is required.Alternatively, an additional 4 years (12 total) of directly relatedfull-time work experience may be considered in lieu of degree. A systems related certification (MCSA, VCP, RHCSA or similar) may be credited for three years of experience.
Experience: A minimum of 8 years' experience in complex IT environments is required. This includes direct experience deploying and supporting enterprise systems and infrastructure across technology towers (storage, cloud, networking, operating systems, and applications).A systems related certification (MCSA, VCP, RHCSA or similar) is preferred.
The position requires knowledge in many of the following areas as it relates to designing, implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting operational incidents:
Strong understanding of Microsoft, VMware, and/or Linux operating systems/networking in large high performance high availability environments
Good understanding of operational database administration, HA/DR, and ETL concepts
Experience managing enterprise-class ISA server hardware (HPE, Dell, or IBM)
Strong networking skills with an understanding of LAN, WAN, firewall, & VPN concepts
Experience with enterprise-grade central backup software, VTL, and/or tape libraries
Strong understanding of iSCSI and Fibre Channel SAN technology in a multi-path environment
Demonstrated excellent technical documentation ability
Demonstrated professionalism and skills to present and communicate effectively with internal departments
Familiarity with encryption technologies and implementations
Scripting or programming (e.g.: Powershell, Bash, CMD, VBScript, C#, ASP.Net, etc.)
Preferred skills and background in the following areas:
Administration of hybrid on-prem/cloud IT infrastructure
Developmental database administration and business analytics with Microsoft SQL Server
Familiarity with recent releases of Microsoft SharePoint
Experience working in a highly regulated industry
In depth understanding of MS PKI infrastructure
Experience with virtual desktop infrastructure
Experience with multi-master file and database replication systems
Experience with blade platforms, HSM encryption devices, and storage replication
Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
