Revenue cycle consultants work in the healthcare industry. They review the billing, claims, and payment procedures of a medical office or facility and recommend ways to streamline financial operations and process more successful insurance claims. As a revenue cycle consultant, you may recommend retraining employees on medical billing and patient relations; coding errors, incorrect insurance data input, poor communication among staff members, and inefficient workflow contribute to waste and loss of revenue. To become a revenue cycle consultant, you need a bachelor’s in business, finance, accounting, or a related field and several years of experience in the healthcare industry.
