Store Planner / Designer - Supermarket & Retail DesignPosition Overview

A growing engineering and design-build firm specializing in the supermarket and retail food industry is seeking an experienced Store Planner / Designer to join its multi-disciplinary team. This role focuses on developing innovative retail store layouts, optimizing customer flow, coordinating MEP systems, and supporting high-impact supermarket and retail projects from concept through implementation.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in retail floor planning, supermarket design, AutoCAD drafting, and coordination with architectural and engineering teams.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop creative and functional retail store layouts aligned with client branding and merchandising strategies

  • Create detailed floor plans and retail space designs that maximize operational efficiency and customer experience

  • Coordinate store layouts with HVAC-R, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems

  • Conduct field/site visits to document existing conditions, fixtures, and MEP infrastructure

  • Prepare and maintain accurate AutoCAD drawings and CAD standards

  • Develop dynamic blocks and perform CAD data extraction tasks

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, merchandisers, and operations teams

  • Select appropriate store equipment and fixtures to support merchandising strategies

  • Assist with lighting concepts and aesthetic design improvements

  • Manage project schedules, priorities, and design deliverables in a fast-paced environment

  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure proper execution of design intent

  • Stay current with supermarket and retail design trends, technologies, and best practices


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Commercial Planning, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred

  • Proven experience in retail store planning and design

  • Supermarket or grocery retail design experience strongly preferred

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD required

  • Experience with Revit, SketchUp, or other 3D modeling tools is a plus

  • Knowledge of retail layout optimization, merchandising principles, and customer flow management

  • Understanding of MEP coordination and retail infrastructure systems

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Excellent visual design sense and attention to detail

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously
