Job description

Position Overview:
Center of Life is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and process-oriented Development Associate to play a critical role in supporting the fundraising efforts of our organization. This position is responsible for assisting in the execution of fundraising campaigns, donor relations, and grant writing activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for helping people along with our organization achieve its fundraising goals in our mission to provide youth, parents, and community members with resources, education and programs that help them thrive.
Essential Goals, Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Admin - Fund Development
  • Lead grant writing efforts
  • Maintain foundation, corporation, and individual donor files on the database
  • Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate, foundation, and individual donors
  • Process donations and prepare acknowledgement letters and other correspondences
  • Prepare philanthropic reports as needed
  • Send appropriate documentation to process credits to donors
  • Generate and maintain revenue on the database and communicate accordingly with various stakeholders (Board of Directors, CEO) for updates
  • Reconcile donations with the Finance Department monthly
  • Handle all administrative details associated with fundraising events and other meetings (i.e. prepare and distribute notices, agendas, minutes, refreshments etc.)
  • Coordinate production and mailing of spring and year-end appeal letters
  1. Outreach and Engagement - Events
  • Maintain guest lists, gather and prepare registration materials and other duties as assigned for fundraising events
  • Prospect and procure raffle donations for events
  • Prepare media materials for distribution (i.e. copying, filing, mailing, e-mailing)
  • Assemble media and donor kits for events and meetings
  • Develop and implement donor membership program on the organization database
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Development Manager.
  1. Possible performance measures:
  • Number of donations processed and acknowledged within 24 to 48 hours
  • Success in maintaining accuracy of database records
  • Accuracy and completion of fundraising reports and dashboards
  • Success in coordinating the production of direct mail appeals.
  • Success in maintaining donor hard copy files.

  1. General Center of Life Expectations:
  • Maintain regular/programming office hours
  • Participate as an active member of Center of Life staff
  • Adhere to all Center of Life's policies and procedures
  • Attend all COL staff meetings, retreats, and mandatory events
  • Meet bi-weekly with Immediate Supervisor
  • Adhere to the security, accuracy and operability of the daily communication and program reporting needs of COL.
  • Contribute to the development of a supportive and collaborative work environment.

Education and Qualifications:
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in an administrative position, preferably in a not-for-profit development office as well as experience in writing and managing grants.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Database management experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • A self-starter, data and deadline driven, and ability to multi-task with solid organizational and time-management skills

Salary and Benefits:
  • Starting salary $45,000 annually
  • Insurance in the forms of medical, dental, and vision
  • Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), COL covers 100% of these premiums for each employee.
