A residence manager works in a facility that houses people for long periods of time, like college and university dorms or group homes. In this career, you may interact with residents, but your primary role is to oversee the goings on at the facility to ensure a high quality of resident care and attention. In a college dorm, you may oversee students who act as resident assistants, while also acting as the governing body in the dormitory in cases of disciplinary action or if basic mediation is necessary. Your responsibilities as a residence manager may also extend to working with cleaning staff, social workers, or medical experts, especially if your facility houses those with developmental disabilities or addiction issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to build processes, teams, and service standards from the ground up.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
  • Self-directed, adaptable, and comfortable working in a highly visible, hands-on interim leadership role.
