How do Remote Visual Designers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working from different locations?

Remote Visual Designers often use a variety of digital collaboration tools, such as Slack, Figma, and Zoom, to communicate and share their work with team members across departments. Regular virtual check-ins and feedback sessions are common, ensuring alignment with project goals and design standards. While the remote nature of the role requires strong self-management, it also encourages proactive communication and clear documentation, making it crucial for designers to be organized and responsive. This collaborative structure allows Remote Visual Designers to contribute effectively to projects alongside product managers, developers, and marketers.

What are Remote Visual Designers?

Remote Visual Designers are creative professionals who develop visual concepts and designs for digital or print media while working from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home. They use graphic design software to create layouts, illustrations, branding materials, and user interfaces, collaborating with teams virtually. Their primary focus is on aesthetics, ensuring that visual elements communicate messages effectively and align with a company's brand. Remote Visual Designers often work with marketing, web development, or product teams to create cohesive visual experiences.

What Does a Remote Visual Designer Do?

The job duties of a remote visual designer focus on creating graphic design content for an employer or client. As a remote visual designer, you work from home to create unique visuals that meet the needs of your employer, so your responsibilities vary from project to project. You usually work within specific guidelines, but some clients include you in the planning and concept development process. You often work on branding projects where you create visuals, color schemes, typography, static and animated web ads, and logos. In this career, you may also have a specialty, such as illustration or typography.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Visual Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Visual Designer, you need a strong portfolio showcasing expertise in graphic design principles, color theory, typography, and proficiency with a design-related degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and Sketch is typically required, along with knowledge of collaborative platforms like Slack or Trello. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help you stand out when working independently and collaborating remotely with teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering visually compelling work efficiently and maintaining effective teamwork in a remote environment.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Graphic Designer based in Netherlands.

This role is an opportunity for a creative and detail-oriented designer to transform complex B2B ideas into visually compelling, easy-to-understand designs. You will work across a variety of formats including reports, ebooks, social assets, and print magazines, helping turn data, research, and frameworks into engaging visual narratives. Operating in a fast-paced, experimental, and remote-first environment, you will collaborate closely with writers, marketers, and strategists to ensure design enhances and clarifies the message. Each project will challenge you to balance creativity with structure while working within diverse client brand guidelines. You will own your work end-to-end, managing multiple projects while maintaining high-quality output and deadlines. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving visual communication problems and shaping how information is experienced.

Accountabilities:
  • Design visually compelling reports, ebooks, whitepapers, and research documents that align with both client and internal brand standards.
  • Translate data, frameworks, and research insights into clear and engaging visual narratives and infographics.
  • Develop custom diagrams and visual systems from rough concepts or early-stage ideas to final polished outputs.
  • Lead or support the design of print magazines in collaboration with editorial teams, ensuring strong layout and visual storytelling.
  • Create consistent and high-quality digital and social media assets adapted to multiple client channels.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring timely delivery without compromising design quality.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including writers, editors, and marketers to align visuals with strategic messaging.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a graphic designer with a strong and diverse portfolio across digital and print work.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Figma.
  • Strong visual storytelling skills with the ability to simplify complex or technical content.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to refine concepts into polished, production-ready designs.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize effectively in a remote, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with openness to feedback and iteration.
  • Self-directed working style with strong ownership of projects from concept to delivery.
  • Positive, team-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional environments.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote, contract-based role with global collaboration opportunities.
  • High level of autonomy with ownership over your projects and schedule.
  • Opportunity to work on diverse, intellectually stimulating B2B content and creative challenges.
  • Exposure to experienced marketing, editorial, and strategy professionals from leading global companies.
  • Freedom to experiment and contribute to innovative design approaches in a fast-moving environment.
  • Flexible working arrangement supporting independent workflow and delivery.
