Familiarity with user testing platforms (such as UserTesting or Lookback.io) and screen recording/annotation tools is commonly required, though formal certifications are not always mandatory. Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, and the ability to provide constructive feedback help you stand out in this role. Testers often need to quickly adapt to different products and testing tools, manage time effectively across multiple projects, and avoid misinterpretation of user feedback due to lack of face-to-face interaction. Working remotely also requires a high level of self-motivation and discipline to meet deadlines without in-person supervision. However, these challenges can be mitigated by proactive communication, thorough documentation of findings, and leveraging collaboration platforms to stay connected with teams.

What companies will pay you to test their products?

Remote user testing companies such as UserTesting, TryMyUI, and Userlytics pay individuals to evaluate websites, apps, and products. These platforms typically require testers to complete tasks and provide feedback, often using tools like screen recording and microphones, and pay per test or project.
