As the Region Safety Director for the Northwest, you will be a visible regional leader who helps shape how safety is led, measured, and sustained across multiple operating locations. This role is designed for a hands-on safety executive who can move seamlessly from strategic planning to field execution—partnering with operations, maintenance, training, compliance, risk, human resources, and client teams to reduce risk, strengthen accountability, and build a proactive safety culture. You will guide leaders through audits, investigations, compliance execution, performance improvement, and safety program implementation while coaching division teams to make safety a core part of daily operations.

This is a remote leadership role with approximately 60% travel. The selected candidate must live near a major airport within the Northwest region and be comfortable spending meaningful time in the field with operating teams.

Main Responsibilities:

Compliance Programs & Policy Management

• Serve as a regional subject matter expert for OSHA, FTA, DOT, FMCSA, ADA, CHP, and other applicable safety and transportation regulations.
• Lead readiness for internal, client, and regulatory audits and inspections, ensuring locations are prepared, responsive, and accountable.
• Turn audit, inspection, and incident data into clear corrective actions that address root causes and prevent repeat issues.
• Ensure accidents, incidents, and security events are investigated, documented, reported, and mitigated in a timely and consistent manner.
• Maintain strong recordkeeping and reporting discipline across assigned locations, including compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.
• Support the consistent application of safety and training policies, programs, procedures, and employee relations actions, including discipline, grievances, and corrective action when required.

Safety Leadership, Training Programs & Safety Initiatives

• Champion MV’s safety culture by helping leaders translate safety expectations into consistent daily practices.
• Partner with regional, operations, maintenance, and executive leadership to identify risk, remove barriers, and sustain measurable safety improvement.
• Use telematics, audit findings, claims trends, incident history, and safety performance data to identify emerging risks and drive targeted mitigation plans.
• Lead safety performance reviews that create accountability, clarify priorities, and support sustained improvement across the region.
• Guide the execution of regional safety, training, incentive, and FMCSA compliance programs with a focus on consistency and operational impact.
• Coach, mentor, and develop division leaders and safety personnel so they can confidently lead safety conversations, corrective actions, and performance improvement efforts.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, development, and performance management for regional safety talent.
• Stay connected to industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices, bringing practical recommendations back to the business.
• Partner with Risk Management on loss control, reporting, claims trends, and insurance-related safety requirements.
• Provide support to the Chief Safety Officer, Regional Vice President, and other leaders on safety matters, special projects, and emerging priorities as director.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experienced listed below.

Experience

• Five (5) years management experience in safety and/or training role overseeing multiple locations.
• Five (5) years experience in the Workplace Safety (OSHA) required.
• Five (5) years experience in the Transportation Compliance (DOT) required.
• Experience with defensive driving programs required.
• Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) Certification preferred.
• Experience working with unionized workforce preferred.

• Attention to detail and thorough reporting / documentation skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to influence people at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
• Intermediate level use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and other windows-based computer operating systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Capacity to understand and apply purposeful operations and safety performance metrics
• Ability to hold the respect and confidence of all employees.
• Ability to work independently and objectively.
• Knowledge of State and Federal regulations, including but not limited to Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), California Highway Patrol (CHP) rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of best-in-class safety and training programs

Salary Range: $140,000-$165,000
