Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY: Textile/Print Designer

REPORTS TO: Senior Designer

ENGAGEMENT TYPE: Project-Based Contract

LOCATION: US - Remote

Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA with an office in New York, NY, Birdy Grey supports remote work for eligible roles. This is a project-based contract engagement, not a full-time or benefits-eligible role.

Birdy Grey is seeking an experienced Textile & Print Designer for a scoped contract engagement supporting our January activation. The project involves developing 3 production-ready artworks in full repeat, each delivered across approximately 10-15 colorways (30-45 total colorway files). The ideal candidate is technically precise, highly organized, and able to work independently to deliver production-ready files on a tight timeline.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop 3 original print artworks from concept through final production-ready files
  • Execute full repeat print development to scale for each artwork, including any engineered or allover repeat structures
  • Build 10-15 colorways per artwork (30-45 total colorway files), ensuring palette alignment with seasonal direction
  • Prepare RGB files for production handoff with precise color specifications and organized file naming conventions
  • Create Jacquard and/or handloom artwork as required, translating design intent into technically accurate weave-ready files for mill partners
  • Deliver all files in agreed formats, organized and ready for vendor submission
  • Incorporate revision rounds within the scope buffer; flag any requests that fall outside the agreed deliverables
  • Communicate proactively with the Senior Designer on timeline, file status, and any technical blockers

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE: QUALIFICATIONS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree Required

EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5+ years of experience in textile or print design, with a portfolio demonstrating production-ready work
  • Expertise in full repeat print development to scale in Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop
  • Strong colorway development skills; proven ability to deliver high volumes of colorway files with accuracy and consistency
  • Experience preparing RGB production files for mill and vendor handoff
  • Experience developing Jacquard and/or handloom artwork, with working knowledge of weave structures
  • Solid understanding of printing techniques (digital, screen, rotary) and fabric construction
  • Highly organized with meticulous file management practices and attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal oversight
  • Clear, proactive communicator - surfaces issues early and comes with solutions

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience designing for the bridal, wedding, or special occasion market
  • Familiarity with overseas manufacturing and mill communication
  • Start-up or DTC brand experience
  • Genuine passion for bridal and fashion
