What does a remote technical recruiter do?

As a remote technical recruiter, your job is to work from home to source, screen, and recruit candidates, typically focusing on hiring for jobs in engineering, product design, and analytics fields. You often work for hiring firms that specialize in finding candidates with the right history for complex projects. For example, providing on-site engineering services to an offshore oil rig isn't the same as welding metal in the middle of a factory, so you must work to understand the actual needs of a position and evaluate candidates accordingly. In this role, you may help cultivate relationships with customers, work with recruiting coordinators to track applicants, explain the recruiting process to customers, and use analytics software to evaluate the performance of the company's current recruitment techniques.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote technical recruiter?

To thrive as a Remote Technical Recruiter, you need a solid understanding of technical roles, recruiting best practices, and previous experience in talent acquisition or HR. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and recruitment certifications such as AIRS or SHRM-CP are often valuable. Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and self-motivation are essential soft skills that distinguish top recruiters in a remote setting. These skills and qualifications are crucial for efficiently sourcing, evaluating, and engaging top technical talent while collaborating effectively with hiring teams from a distance.

How do remote technical recruiters typically collaborate with hiring managers and technical teams while working from different locations?

Remote Technical Recruiters rely heavily on digital communication tools such as video calls, chat platforms, and collaborative hiring software to stay aligned with hiring managers and technical teams. Regular check-ins and clear documentation are essential to understand technical requirements and provide timely updates on candidate progress. Building strong relationships virtually can be a challenge, but proactive communication and transparency help ensure smooth coordination throughout the recruitment process. This collaborative approach allows recruiters to effectively identify and engage top technical talent, even when working from different locations.

Technical Recruiter

Who We Are

We are a stealth-mode startup building foundational technology to address performance, scalability, and resiliency challenges in large-scale AI data center clusters. We are backed by top-tier VC firms and notable angel investors.

The company is led by experienced builders and operators who have founded companies, taken them to scale, and exited successfully. We work with a strong sense of unity and shared responsibility, and we expect trust, integrity, and respect in how we collaborate and make decisions. We hold ourselves accountable to one another and to the quality of the work we deliver.

Headquartered in Silicon Valley, we operate across a mix of remote and on-site locations in the U.S. and Canada. We aim to create an environment where people are treated fairly, supported in their growth, and are empowered to do meaningful work alongside others who take the craft seriously.

About the Role

We are seeking a Technical Recruiter to help us scale a high-caliber engineering organization across semiconductor, silicon, hardware, systems, software, and AI infrastructure functions. This person will own full-cycle recruiting for highly specialized technical roles, partner closely with hiring managers, and help build the recruiting infrastructure needed for a fast-moving startup.

This role requires direct sourcing and recruiting experience in the semiconductor industry. The ideal candidate understands the talent market for silicon, hardware, systems, and infrastructure engineering and can credibly engage passive candidates in highly competitive technical markets.

This is a remote role, preferably in the Pacific time zone, with occasional travel for company meetings and recruiting events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own full-cycle recruiting for technical roles, with an emphasis on semiconductor, silicon, hardware, systems, software, and AI infrastructure hiring.

  • Partner with hiring managers to define role requirements, interview plans, sourcing strategies, candidate profiles, and evaluation criteria.

  • Build targeted sourcing strategies for specialized talent across semiconductor, silicon design, hardware engineering, systems engineering, networking, data center infrastructure, embedded systems, firmware, software, and related domains.

  • Identify, engage, and nurture passive candidates through thoughtful outreach and long-term relationship building.

  • Manage candidates through the full hiring process, including intake, sourcing, screening, interview coordination, feedback collection, offer support, and close.

  • Ensure a high-quality candidate experience that reflects our culture, pace, and technical depth.

  • Use Ashby and related recruiting tools to maintain accurate pipeline data, track activity, and provide hiring updates to leadership.

  • Help improve recruiting processes, including interview structure, scorecards, pipeline reporting, candidate communications, and hiring manager workflows.

  • Partner with People Operations, Finance, and leadership on headcount planning, offer approvals, compensation alignment, and onboarding handoffs.

  • Represent the company in the market with professionalism, credibility, and a clear understanding of our technical mission.

  • Travel occasionally for company meetings, recruiting events, hiring manager sessions, and onsite interview support.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of recruiting experience, including direct recruiting experience in the semiconductor industry.

  • Proven experience recruiting for technical roles in areas such as silicon, hardware engineering, systems engineering, ASIC/SOC, verification, physical design, firmware, embedded systems, networking, data center infrastructure, or related technical domains.

  • Strong sourcing capability, including experience identifying and engaging passive candidates in competitive semiconductor and deep-tech talent markets.

  • Ability to partner effectively with technical hiring managers and translate complex engineering requirements into practical recruiting strategies.

  • Strong judgment in candidate assessment, process management, stakeholder communication, and hiring prioritization.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling candidate outreach.

  • High ownership, urgency, organization, and follow-through.

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and helping create structure as the company scales.

  • Experience with modern ATS and sourcing tools; Ashby experience is a plus.

  • Ability to work remotely and travel occasionally as needed.

Desired Skills

  • Experience recruiting for AI infrastructure, networking, data center, or high-performance compute companies.

  • Experience supporting early-stage or growth-stage startup hiring.

  • Familiarity with compensation, equity, offer strategy, and closing candidates in competitive markets.

  • Experience building recruiting dashboards, pipeline reporting, or structured interview processes.

  • Prior agency or executive search experience focused on semiconductor or deep-tech talent.

Compensation:

Target base salary for this role is $120,000 โ€“ $150,000 per year, plus equity and benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, experience, and location.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We value a range of perspectives and experiences and make employment decisions based on merit and business needs. We do not discriminate on the basis of legally protected characteristics.
