What is a remote technical recruiter?

A Remote Technical Recruiter is a professional who specializes in sourcing, screening, and hiring candidates for technical roles, such as software engineers or IT specialists, while working remotely. They use various online tools and platforms to connect with potential candidates, conduct interviews, and collaborate with hiring managers. Remote Technical Recruiters are skilled in understanding technical job requirements and assessing candidates' technical abilities, often working for tech companies, staffing agencies, or as independent consultants. Their work helps organizations find and attract top technical talent regardless of geographic location.

What does a remote technical recruiter do?

As a remote technical recruiter, your job is to work from home to source, screen, and recruit candidates, typically focusing on hiring for jobs in engineering, product design, and analytics fields. You often work for hiring firms that specialize in finding candidates with the right history for complex projects. For example, providing on-site engineering services to an offshore oil rig isn't the same as welding metal in the middle of a factory, so you must work to understand the actual needs of a position and evaluate candidates accordingly. In this role, you may help cultivate relationships with customers, work with recruiting coordinators to track applicants, explain the recruiting process to customers, and use analytics software to evaluate the performance of the company's current recruitment techniques.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote technical recruiter?

To thrive as a Remote Technical Recruiter, you need a solid understanding of technical roles, recruiting best practices, and previous experience in talent acquisition or HR. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and recruitment certifications such as AIRS or SHRM-CP are often valuable. Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and self-motivation are essential soft skills that distinguish top recruiters in a remote setting. These skills and qualifications are crucial for efficiently sourcing, evaluating, and engaging top technical talent while collaborating effectively with hiring teams from a distance.

How do remote technical recruiters typically collaborate with hiring managers and technical teams while working from different locations?

Remote Technical Recruiters rely heavily on digital communication tools such as video calls, chat platforms, and collaborative hiring software to stay aligned with hiring managers and technical teams. Regular check-ins and clear documentation are essential to understand technical requirements and provide timely updates on candidate progress. Building strong relationships virtually can be a challenge, but proactive communication and transparency help ensure smooth coordination throughout the recruitment process. This collaborative approach allows recruiters to effectively identify and engage top technical talent, even when working from different locations.

Job description

Technical Recruiter
Location: North America Remote / San Francisco, CA • Full-Time
About Andromeda
Andromeda gives AI companies access to the kind of scaled compute once reserved for hyperscalers. Our platform connects 100+ AI customers to 50+ global providers, with billions of GPU-hours supported, and those numbers are all rapidly growing. We combine enterprise-grade reliability with the speed and economics of an open market, serving teams running everything from large-scale training to production inference.
Nat Friedman (former CEO of GitHub) and Daniel Gross (former head of AI at Apple, YC partner) started Andromeda in 2023 with a single GPU cluster. It filled almost immediately. Three years later, we're a $1.5B company, profitable since day one, with a Series A from Paradigm to scale the platform globally. The global flow of compute is already a multi-trillion dollar market, and our team is building the infrastructure that enables it to continue to scale.
The problem is deceptively hard. Not all compute is equal: interconnect, networking, OEM, firmware, and cluster age all vary across providers, and the differences matter at scale. Our platform benchmarks and validates capacity, takes positions, structures contracts, and operates clusters globally, delivering a consistent product regardless of where it runs. No one else has built this layer, and the AI industry can't scale without it.
The Role
We are looking for a hands-on technical recruiter to help build the team behind Andromeda's next stage of growth. You'll own a focused portfolio of our highest-priority searches, primarily across engineering and AI infrastructure, and work directly with hiring managers from role definition through close.
The people we need are rarely waiting for a recruiter to contact them, and nearly all of them have strong alternatives. Success requires more than working through a familiar list of companies or sending polished outreach at scale. You'll need to find talent in places others overlook, understand what motivates each person, tell a compelling and credible story about Andromeda, and close candidates who could otherwise choose to work at leading labs and neoclouds.
This is not a coordination role or a strategy-only leadership position. You'll also raise the quality of how we hire: sharper prioritization, stronger calibration, faster decisions, and reliable recruiting data.
The role begins as an individual contributor. As Andromeda and the hiring plan grow, there will be room to shape the recruiting function and take on broader ownership.
What You'll Own
  • Critical technical searches: Run full-cycle recruiting for a focused set of high-priority roles, from intake and talent mapping through assessment, references, offer, and close.
  • Creative sourcing: Build targeted pipelines through original research, unconventional channels, direct outreach, referrals, and long-term relationship development. Keep finding new ways to reach exceptional people rather than relying on inbound applicants, agencies, or the same obvious talent pools.
  • Hiring manager partnership: Run disciplined pipeline reviews, build high-trust relationships with hiring managers, and make tough judgment calls together.
  • Storytelling and closing: Turn Andromeda's technical work and ambition into a clear, compelling story. Tailor that story to what matters to each candidate, build conviction throughout the process, and lead the close when they are choosing among strong alternatives.
  • Recruiting operations: Keep Ashby accurate and useful, use data to identify bottlenecks and constantly iterate, and experiment with AI to build tools that can power a world-class recruiting machine.
What We're Looking For
  • A record of exceptional technical hiring: You have 5+ years of recruiting experience and have competed for engineering talent and won against the most established and desirable technology companies on earth.
  • Early-stage range: You have succeeded in a fast-growing startup or similarly demanding environment where priorities change, resources are limited, and the recruiter must do the work directly.
  • Creative sourcing ability: You can map a market, uncover strong candidates outside the obvious channels, write outreach that earns responses, and keep experimenting when the standard playbook stops working.
  • Strong judgment and influence: Hiring managers see you as a partner. You can challenge a brief, improve an interview process, create urgency without relying on formal authority, and maintain the operating discipline needed to keep several important searches moving.
  • Exceptional storytelling and closing ability: You learn unfamiliar technical domains quickly, explain why the work matters without overselling it, adapt the pitch to the person in front of you, and have repeatedly closed sought-after candidates in competitive situations.
This Role May Not Be a Fit If
  • You are looking primarily to manage a recruiting team or advise from a distance; this role is hands-on.
  • Your recruiting model depends heavily on inbound volume or outside agencies.
  • You prefer to treat every open role as equally urgent rather than making explicit tradeoffs around the company's most important hires.
Strong Candidates May Have
  • Built or helped build the recruiting function at an early-stage technology company.
  • Recruited for AI infrastructure, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, developer tools, or another deeply technical field.
  • Closed senior and staff-level engineers against larger, better-known companies.
Why You'll Love It Here
  • Work that matters: The people you hire will build the infrastructure that frontier AI companies depend on.
  • Real ownership: You'll work directly with company leaders and influence both who joins Andromeda and how we make hiring decisions.
  • A company scaling quickly: You'll join at a moment when recruiting quality and speed will materially shape the business.
  • Competitive compensation and meaningful equity: Share in the value you help create.
  • Comprehensive benefits: Healthcare, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents, a 401(k), and unlimited PTO.
