Job description

Power Systems Medium Voltage Switchgear Engineer

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Medium Voltage Switchgear Engineer with 2–3 years of experience in the design, testing, and support of medium voltage (MV) switchgear systems. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical foundation, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, sales and project teams to deliver reliable design solutions.

Key Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Design and develop medium voltage switchgear systems (typically 1kV–38kV) in compliance with applicable standards (ANSI, IEEE, IEC).
  • Prepare electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
  • Perform equipment sizing, protection coordination, and short-circuit/arc flash analysis.
  • Review customer specifications and project requirements to ensure technical compliance.
  • Support manufacturing, assembly, and factory acceptance testing (FAT) of switchgear panels.
  • Troubleshoot design or field issues and provide technical support to internal teams and clients.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including project management, procurement, and quality.
  • Assist in commissioning activities and provide on-site or remote technical support as needed.
  • Maintain proper documentation and engineering records.
  • Interface with sales team and customers on new opportunities and technical reviews of applications

What we need you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of experience working with Schneider, Siemens, Eaton or ABB medium voltage switchgear.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards such as UL, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, and NEC.
  • Experience with protection relays and control systems.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, EPlan, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals, including power systems and protection schemes.
  • Familiarity with relay programming (e.g., SEL, ABB, Siemens).
  • Exposure to arc flash studies and power system modeling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Travel Requirements – 5 - 10% travel
