How much do remote rtl design jobs pay per year?

As of May 29, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote rtl design in the United States is $139,368.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $136,000.00 and $136,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote RTL Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote RTL Design Engineer, you need a solid background in digital logic design, Verilog or VHDL programming, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools such as Synopsys, Cadence, or Mentor Graphics, and knowledge of simulation, synthesis, and timing analysis are typically required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills are essential for collaborating with distributed teams. These competencies ensure the creation of reliable, high-performance hardware designs and efficient teamwork in a remote environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote RTL Design engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote RTL Design engineers often encounter challenges such as effective communication with cross-functional teams, managing version control for hardware description files, and ensuring timely feedback on design iterations. To address these, many teams utilize collaborative tools like version control systems (e.g., Git), regular video meetings, and shared project management platforms. Establishing clear documentation and proactive communication habits can further minimize misunderstandings and keep projects on track, fostering a productive remote work environment.

What are Remote RTL Design jobs?

Remote RTL (Register Transfer Level) Design jobs involve creating and verifying digital circuit designs using hardware description languages like Verilog or VHDL, while working from a remote location. RTL designers translate system requirements into functional hardware blocks, simulate their operation, and ensure they meet performance and power specifications. These roles are common in semiconductor and electronics companies, enabling professionals to collaborate with global teams without being onsite. Remote RTL designers typically use cloud-based tools and platforms to access design environments and communicate with colleagues. Strong knowledge of digital logic, hardware design languages, and industry-standard EDA tools is essential for these positions.

What is the difference between Remote Rtl Design vs Remote Digital IC Design?

AspectRemote Rtl DesignRemote Digital IC Design
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related; knowledge of HDL (VHDL/Verilog)Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related; knowledge of HDL and circuit design
Work EnvironmentDesigning RTL code, simulation, verification, often in a collaborative team settingDesigning digital integrated circuits, layout, verification, often in a team
Industry UsageSemiconductor, electronics companies, chip design firmsSemiconductor, electronics, and integrated circuit manufacturing

Remote Rtl Design focuses on creating and verifying RTL code for digital circuits, while Remote Digital IC Design involves designing entire integrated circuits. Both roles require similar technical skills and often overlap in the semiconductor industry, but they differ in scope and specific tasks.

CPU Micro Architect / Logic Designer

CPU Micro Architect / Logic Designer

Ventana Micro Systems

Cupertino, CA โ€ข On-site, Remote

$105K - $260K/yr

Full-time

Posted 22 hours ago

Job description

Ventana is building the highest-performance RISC-V CPUs on the planet-designed for data center, AI, and edge workloads, with real silicon, not slideware.
Our second-generation Veyron core (V2) is on track to ship early next year, featuring an aggressive wide-issue pipeline and built in 4nm. Development on Veyron V3 is ramping now, with even greater performance and deep AI platform integration. This is your opportunity to work alongside engineers who built iconic processors like the AMD K6 and the first 64-bit ARM server processor (X-Gene at AppliedMicro)-bringing decades of CPU innovation to a clean-slate, open-standards future. You can check us out here: Ventana Micro - YouTube
We're looking for senior microarchitects and logic designers to help define and deliver the heart of our next-gen cores. If you've owned major features in a high-performance CPU, we want to talk.
Role Responsibilities
As a CPU Microarchitect / Logic Designer at Ventana, you will:
  • Define and develop advanced microarchitecture for high-performance RISC-V cores and subsystems
  • Write and maintain detailed design specifications
  • Deliver high-quality, synthesizable RTL for complex processor components
  • Collaborate closely with verification, physical design, and performance modeling teams
  • Support timing closure, power optimization, and clock domain crossings as needed
  • Contribute to bring-up and debug of silicon and emulation platforms
  • Help analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks through the full development lifecycle
Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years of industry experience in CPU or GPU RTL design, microarchitecture, or closely related system-level work
  • Proven ownership of significant features in a high-performance processor
  • Strong understanding of modern CPU architecture (e.g., out-of-order execution, speculative pipelines, caching, coherence)
  • Proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Experience
  • RISC-V or other modern ISA experience (e.g., ARM, x86, MIPS, SPARC, POWER)
  • Familiarity with high-frequency design techniques (timing, power, CDC)
  • Experience with front-end tools: synthesis, simulation, lint, waveform viewers
  • Scripting experience (Python, Perl, or similar)
  • Involvement in post-silicon debug and validation
  • Comfort working in distributed, hybrid-remote teams

BASE SALARY RANGE

$105,000 TO $260,000 per year

Ventana is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, sex, age, disability, or other protected status.
