This is a remote/virtual position. Candidate can be based anywhere within the United States.

This position in Sargent & Lundy's Consulting group will require you to focus on our utility planning and advisory projects, such as the following:

  • Transmission system planning and analysis, including studies in load flow, stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients (EMT), to support a variety of clients such as ISO/RTO and electric utilities.
  • Preparing new generator interconnection applications, including development of conceptual single line diagram, verification of compliance with reactive power requirements, and development of steady-state, dynamic, and short circuit models to support the applications.
  • Reviewing ISO feasibility and system impact studies to provide guidance to our clients, who are ISO Interconnection Customers.
Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and sufficient industry experience is considered in lieu of an advanced degree
  • A minimum of 6 years relevant power systems engineering experience with utility or consultant
  • Experience in load flow and contingency analysis to identify transmission thermal and voltage constraints and to identify transfer capability limits
  • Experience using transmission planning software for load flow modeling, contingency analysis, and stability analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, TARA

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Experience in stability analysis to identify critical clearing times, identify voltage constraints and analyze power system damping
  • Experience in electromagnetic transient analysis using PSCAD
  • Experience in short circuit analysis and using software programs CAPE or ASPEN
  • Knowledge of power regions and ISOs/RTOs, such as: PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ISO-NE
  • Experience in Python, Java Script, or other scripting languages
