Job description

We are seeking a motivated Junior Transmission Line Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team. This position is ideal for an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with 2–5 years of experience in overhead transmission line engineering who is looking to build a long-term career designing and delivering utility transmission projects throughout California.
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Senior and Lead Engineers supporting the planning, analysis, and design of high-voltage overhead transmission systems for investor-owned utilities, municipalities, and federal clients.
Responsibilities
Support engineering design for overhead transmission lines ranging from approximately 69kV to 500kV.
Prepare transmission line design packages including:
Plan and Profile drawings
Structure spotting
Pole and tower loading
Material lists
Construction packages
Assist with transmission line routing studies and constructability reviews.
Perform basic engineering calculations related to:
Conductor selection
Sag and tension
Clearance verification
Structure loading
Support preparation of design documentation using:
PLS-CADD
PLS-Tower (preferred)
AutoCAD
Microsoft Office
Coordinate with structural, geotechnical, civil, environmental, permitting, and survey teams.
Support field walks and site visits as needed.
Participate in QA/QC reviews and maintain compliance with utility and industry standards.
Assist with project schedules, technical reports, and client deliverables.
Continue professional development toward California Professional Engineer licensure.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (preferred) or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
2–5 years of experience in overhead transmission line engineering.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification required.
California EIT or California PE path preferred.
Experience with transmission utility projects.
Understanding of:
NESC
ASCE 10
Utility engineering standards
Basic structural loading principles
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using:
PLS-CADD
PLS-Tower
AutoCAD Civil 3D
Familiarity with:
GIS
LiDAR data
Survey coordination
Experience supporting California utility clients including:
PG&E
SCE
SDG&E
Municipal Utilities
Working knowledge of steel lattice towers, tubular steel poles, and wood pole transmission structures.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
