What is a Remote Operator job?

A Remote Operator monitors and controls systems, equipment, or processes from a remote location, often using specialized software or communication tools. They may work in industries like manufacturing, oil and gas, transportation, or customer support. Responsibilities typically include troubleshooting issues, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining safety standards. Strong technical skills and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Operator position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Operator, you need strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and, in many industries, a relevant technical background or certification. Familiarity with remote monitoring software, SCADA systems, communication devices, and, where applicable, specific safety certifications such as OSHA or industry equivalents is often required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and reliability are important soft skills for coordinating with on-site teams and responding quickly to changing situations. These competencies ensure that Remote Operators can safely and efficiently monitor, control, or troubleshoot systems from a distance, often in high-stakes environments.

What are typical daily responsibilities for a Remote Operator and how do they interact with on-site teams?

Remote Operators are responsible for continuously monitoring equipment, systems, or processes through specialized software, responding to alarms, and making operational adjustments as necessary. They often document performance data, generate reports, and troubleshoot issues using remote access tools or by relaying information to field personnel. Regular communication with on-site teams is crucial, as Remote Operators provide vital information, coordinate responses to system alerts, and support safe and effective operations. This role requires proactive attention and strong teamwork to ensure that operations run smoothly, even when not physically present at the worksite.

Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY
We are not looking for someone who wants a job. We are looking for someone who needs to win. This role is purpose-built for the rare individual who wakes up every morning with a burning need to get in front of decision-makers, build relationships that last, and close deals that matter - treating every signed contract the way a long-distance runner treats oxygen.

As our Territory Sales Representative for Oil & Gas and Mining, you will carry our lighting tower Mobile Skid Units (MSUs) into the most demanding energy and resource markets in Western Canada. Your terrain is Northern Alberta and British Columbia. Your mandate is simple: own the market, build the pipeline, and close with conviction. You will be the face of our brand at remote job sites, procurement boardrooms, and industry events alike.

WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS

The oil sands, pipeline corridors, open-pit mines, and remote worksites of Western Canada run 24 hours a day. Temporary power and lighting are not a convenience - they are mission-critical infrastructure. Our lighting tower MSUs solve a real problem for real operators who cannot afford downtime, safety failures, or unreliable vendors. We have built an exceptional product. Now we need an exceptional seller to bring it to the field - someone who understands the culture of these industries and commands respect from the people who run them.

WHAT YOU WILL DO :
Aggressively prospect, cold-call, and hunt new business across oil & gas operators, EPC contractors, pipeline companies, mining operations, and site construction firms throughout Northern AB and BC.
Build and own a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities from first contact through close - with discipline, CRM rigor, and a relentless follow-through mentality.
Leverage an existing network of site supervisors, procurement managers, operations leads, and project managers to fast-track conversations and compress sales cycles.
Conduct site visits, product demonstrations, and on-site assessments to understand customer needs and position our MSU lighting towers as the obvious solution.
Develop and execute territory account plans with clear revenue targets, activity metrics, and competitive positioning strategies.
Negotiate contracts and pricing with precision - protecting margin while delivering undeniable value to clients.
Partner with operations and logistics to ensure seamless delivery, deployment, and customer satisfaction post-sale.
Report accurately and consistently on sales activity, pipeline health, forecasting, and market intelligence.
Represent the company at trade shows, industry associations, and key customer events in the oil, gas, and mining sectors.
Identify and pursue opportunities in adjacent markets including mining, forestry, construction, and emergency response where lighting tower MSUs deliver high value.

WHO YOU ARE - THE HUNTER PROFILE
This role has a very specific personality requirement. Hunters only. If you are a farmer by nature - someone who prefers to nurture existing accounts over chasing new logos - this is not your role. If you thrive in ambiguity, love the chase, and feel alive the moment you walk into a room with a prospect you need to earn, read on.
You are ferociously competitive. Losing a deal bothers you more than most people will understand.
You are self-directed. You do not need a manager to push you - you push yourself harder than anyone could.
You are resilient. Rejection is part of your process, not a reason to stop. You bounce back fast and come back stronger.
You are credible. You speak the language of oil & gas and mining. You know the culture, the acronyms, the hierarchy, and the buying process from the inside.
You are relationship-first. You don't just sell - you build trust, deliver on your word, and become the person your clients call before they call anyone else.
You are coachable. Confidence and humility are not opposites. You're always looking to get better.
You execute with urgency. You treat your territory like a business and your pipeline like the lifeblood of it.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required 5+ years of B2B field sales experience in oil & gas, energy services, industrial equipment, or related sectors in Western Canada.
A proven, verifiable track record of new business development - numbers, percentages, rankings, or awards that back up the claim.
An established network of contacts across oil & gas operators, EPC firms, pipeline contractors, or oilfield services companies in Northern AB and/or BC.
Strong understanding of remote site operations, temporary power/lighting needs, or mobile equipment rentals and sales.
Excellent negotiation, presentation, and closing skills - you know when to push and when to pause.
Proficiency with CRM systems and a disciplined approach to sales data hygiene and forecasting.
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel extensively across the territory, including remote site visits.

Strongly Preferred / High-Value Differentiators
Experience selling into mining operations - open pit, underground, or surface - in BC, AB, or other Canadian markets.
Familiarity with mobile skid units, power generation equipment, temporary lighting systems, or related products.
Existing relationships with procurement and operations leads in major oil sands, SAGD, or northern pipeline projects.
CSTS, H2S Alive, or other site safety certifications that allow immediate site access.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE - YEAR ONE
Milestone Target

  • Active Pipeline Established 90 days from start
  • First Deals Closed 60-90 days from start
  • Annual Revenue Target To Be Set Based on Territory Benchmarking
New Logo Accounts Opened Minimum 10 net-new accounts in Year 1
  • CRM Adoption & Forecast Accuracy Weekly updates; 15% forecast variance

WHAT WE OFFER
A competitive base salary paired with an uncapped, performance-driven commission structure that rewards exactly the behavior we want - more activity, more closed revenue, more earning power.
Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and an RRSP matching program.
A truck/vehicle allowance and full expense coverage for field activities, travel, and entertainment.
A lean, fast-moving organization where decisions get made, resources get allocated, and your wins get recognized.
Direct access to senior leadership - your ideas matter and your feedback shapes how we grow.
Real advancement opportunity for top performers as we scale our national sales footprint.

A FINAL WORD
This role isn't for everyone - and that's intentional. We have designed it for the top tier of industrial sales professionals in Western Canada: the ones who have already proven they can carry a bag, open new markets, and close under pressure. If you are that person, this is the kind of opportunity that doesn't come along often - a wide-open territory, a differentiated product, a leadership team that knows how to win, and a commission structure that actually rewards elite performance. If that describes you, we want to hear from you. Show us your numbers. Tell us about your network. Show us you belong in this role - and we will build something exceptional together.

Accommodation is available upon request to support your participation during all stages of the recruitment process.
