Job Description

Position: Senior Writer, Producer,  CTV Edmonton, Bell Media, Unifor 899M
Location: Edmonton, Alberta (CTV Edmonton)
Salary: Group 6, Unifor 899
Hours of Work: 40 hours a week. Overtime as required

Responsabilities

This position plays a key role on CTV Your Morning Edmonton and requires someone who is thorough, accurate, and highly engaged in the exceptional delivery of content. An excellent communicator with a sense of priority and very strong organization and leadership skills.  While hours will be scheduled as per newsroom requirements, a typical shift would begin at 4am weekdays. 

  • Writing scripts and editing video for news and lifestyle segments with minimal direction and supervision
  • Work efficiently under tight deadlines without jeopardizing accuracy or quality
  • Exceptional news judgement and knowledge of editorial best practices
  • Newscast production, including building and executing lineup prior to broadcast and in control room.
  • Booking and coordinating interview guests as well as producing guest segments
  • Adapting to rapidly changing program situations
  • Strong leadership skills, positive and proactive attitude, excellent independent problem-solving abilities 
Critical Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in television/broadcast production
  • 2 years experience in a newsroom environment
  • Experience writing and producing live newscasts
  • Demonstrated ability to write to pictures and proven experience in broadcast writing style
  • Fundamental knowledge of iNews, Avid Media Composer, and live control room skills
  • Excellent research, analytical and communication skills    
  • Strong editorial sense. Thoroughness, accuracy, a sense of priority. Ability to take initiative, responsibility as well as consult with the team            
  • Ability to deal with multiple demands and pressure of on-air deadlines and corollary need to make immediate and sound decisions
  • Knowledge of the Edmonton news market is an asset

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
