Associate Attorney – Aerospace, Defense & Next-Generation Energy

Direct Counsel is seeking an Associate Attorney to join a leading firm supporting clients in the Aerospace, Defense, and Next-Generation Energy sectors. The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of transactional experience, including drafting and negotiating complex contracts, licenses, and development agreements. Candidates with experience or interest in disputes, investigations, or counseling work are also encouraged to apply. Prior AmLaw 100 firm experience is strongly preferred, and prior work in the relevant sectors or in client advisory roles is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed legal research and analysis to support transactions, disputes, and client advisory matters.

  • Draft precise, error-free legal documents including contracts, agreements, motions, and correspondence.

  • Assist with and manage complex transactions or cases from inception to resolution, including negotiations, settlements, and closings.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients through proactive communication and professional guidance.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop innovative strategies for transactional, regulatory, and dispute matters.

  • Participate in high-level legal activities such as negotiations, depositions, hearings, and other proceedings.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance legal, management, and leadership skills.

  • Contribute to firm initiatives, community programs, and pro bono work.

Qualifications:

  • JD from an accredited law school, with minimum GPA of 3.5.

  • Admission to the DC Bar or ability to gain admission.

  • 1–3 years of relevant experience, preferably in Aerospace, Defense, or Next-Generation Energy sectors.

  • Direct and applicable AmLaw 100 firm experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment & Expectations:

  • Hybrid work model with regular in-office presence and some flexibility for remote work.

  • Sedentary work with occasional light physical activity.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines efficiently while maintaining high-quality work.

Compensation:
Competitive salary commensurate with experience ($225,000–$260,000), plus comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision coverage, and 401(k).
