JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A part-time position is available in the Beyer/Vieira Lab in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology. The position is for 6-10 hours per week. Duties will include washing dishes, sterilizing and disposing of laboratory waste, making media, using sterile techniques to grow bacteria, washing plant pots, among other tasks to support the research of the laboratory. Other duties may include the extraction of viral nucleic acids from mushroom samples, performing reverse transcription reactions, and running PCR and qPCR assays. Full training will be provided for all these molecular techniques, which will be part of your regular responsibilities.

In addition to lab work, there is also an opportunity to be involved with the Mushroom Research Center (MRC). At the MRC, you could gain hands-on experience in mushroom cultivation processes such as harvesting, spawning, and composting. With multiple ongoing projects at the center, there are plenty of opportunities to develop practical skills and contribute to research efforts. Opportunities for advancement and training will be provided.
