What is a remote localization editor?

A Remote Localization Editor is a professional who reviews, edits, and adapts written content to ensure it is culturally and linguistically appropriate for a specific target audience, all while working remotely. This role often involves editing translations, maintaining consistency in terminology, and ensuring the final product reads naturally in the target language. Remote Localization Editors must have strong linguistic skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with localization tools. They may work on various types of content, such as websites, apps, games, or marketing materials, for global markets.

How does a remote localization editor typically collaborate with translators and project managers in a virtual environment?

As a Remote Localization Editor, you will work closely with translators to review and refine translated content, ensuring linguistic accuracy and cultural relevance. Frequent communication with project managers is essential to clarify project requirements, address deadlines, and resolve any language-specific challenges. Collaboration usually takes place via project management platforms, video calls, and shared documents, fostering a team-oriented approach despite the remote setup. Being proactive in communication and feedback is key to maintaining high-quality localization outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote localization editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Localization Editor, you need expertise in language translation, editing, and cultural adaptation, often supported by a degree in linguistics or a related field. Familiarity with CAT tools (like SDL Trados or MemoQ), QA systems, and style guides is typically required. Outstanding attention to detail, time management, and cross-cultural communication skills make someone stand out in this position. These abilities ensure translated content is accurate, culturally relevant, and delivered efficiently for global audiences.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a German Sports Localization Specialist (Football) based in Netherlands.

This is a remote localization opportunity for a language and football enthusiast who can bring authentic German voice and cultural nuance to global sports content. You'll review, translate, fact-check, and adapt football-focused audiovisual content for German-speaking audiences. The role combines linguistic precision with deep sports knowledge, creative writing, and editorial judgment. You'll help ensure terminology, tone, and messaging feel natural and relevant to local football fans. Working independently, you'll contribute to high-volume localization projects while following established quality and style guidelines. This is an excellent opportunity to combine professional language expertise with genuine passion for football in a flexible, global environment.

Accountabilities
  • Review, translate, localize, fact-check, and adapt sports-related content, with a primary focus on football, from US English into German.
  • Perform quality control on audiovisual and multimedia content while maintaining accuracy, consistency, tone, and adherence to applicable style guides.
  • Research German-market content, terminology, product trends, and localization practices to ensure content resonates with the target audience.
  • Provide constructive feedback on localized and written content to improve linguistic quality and audience relevance.
  • Adapt language and editorial style to different audiences, including football fans, younger audiences, and contemporary pop-culture communities.
  • Manage an expected weekly weighted volume of approximately 2,000-5,000 words while maintaining high standards of accuracy and consistency.
  • Apply strong proofreading and editing judgment to identify grammatical, stylistic, cultural, and factual issues.
  • Work independently in a remote environment and manage assigned workloads, deadlines, and quality expectations effectively.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with 2+ years of experience in linguistics, translation, localization, sports journalism, copywriting, copy-editing, or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of sports, particularly football, with the ability to understand relevant terminology, competitions, teams, players, and fan culture.
  • Native-level fluency in German and excellent grammar, writing, editing, and proofreading skills in the target language.
  • Professional experience translating or localizing multimedia content; experience with machine translation and evaluation is an advantage.
  • Strong creative writing skills and the ability to adapt voice, tone, and messaging naturally for German-speaking audiences.
  • Excellent research and fact-checking abilities, with strong attention to linguistic and factual detail.
  • Practical proficiency with computers, mobile devices, word-processing applications, spreadsheets, and other common digital tools.
  • Ownership of a licensed version of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, manage high-volume assignments, and maintain consistent quality in a remote setting.
  • Published sports-related work for outlets such as ESPN, The Athletic, FourFourTwo, or comparable platforms is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with sports media platforms, live-score applications, sports streaming services, or similar digital products is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Gen Z communication, football fan culture, and pop-culture language is a plus.
Benefits
  • Fully remote work arrangement with the flexibility to work from Anywhere.
  • Opportunity to contribute to international sports localization projects and global content experiences.
  • Work that combines professional language expertise with football and sports interests.
  • Exposure to multilingual localization, audiovisual content, and evolving translation technologies.
  • Flexible, independent working environment suited to remote professionals.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with a global network of linguistic and localization specialists.
  • Potential to build experience across sports media, localization, quality assurance, and multilingual content.
