Job description

COMPANY OVERVIEW:
Proper Insurance is a specialty property & casualty program manager (MGA) focused on short-term rental risks (e.g., Airbnb, VRBO). We're known for white-glove claims service and pragmatic underwriting. If you like high standards, direct communication, and solving real customer problems, you'll fit right in.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We're hiring an experienced Liability Desk Adjuster to handle third-party claims end-to-end-coverage, liability evaluation, damages assessment, negotiation, and resolution. You will move files with urgency, make sound, defensible decisions, and own the customer experience without hand-holding.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage a caseload of liability claims from FNOL to closure with accuracy, urgency, and empathy.
  • Analyze coverage against policy forms/endorsements; draft clear, defensible coverage positions and reservation/denial letters.
  • Plan and execute investigations: recorded statements, scene/doc reviews, witness interviews, social/open-source checks as appropriate.
  • Assess liability and comparative fault; apply jurisdictional standards and good-faith requirements.
  • Evaluate bodily injury and property damage exposures (specials/general damages, future meds, wage loss); validate causation.
  • Negotiate fair, timely settlements consistent with facts, policy, and venue; document rationale.
  • Set and adjust reserves based on exposure; surface outliers early with tight file discipline.
  • Coordinate vendors and experts (field, medical, biomech, surveillance) with precise instructions and accountability.
  • Manage litigated matters with panel counsel-strategy, discovery, budgets, reporting, and resolution planning.
  • Communicate proactively with insureds, claimants/attorneys, brokers, and internal stakeholders-no black holes.
  • Maintain meticulous notes, diary control, SLA compliance, and regulatory adherence.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Liability adjusting experience required handling GL/BI/PD claims.
  • Proven end-to-end file ownership: investigation, coverage analysis, valuation, negotiation, and closure.
  • Strong writing and negotiation skills; comfortable delivering hard news respectfully.
  • Working knowledge of claim regulations, time limits, and Unfair Claims Practices.
  • Technically diligent: disciplined diary, clean documentation, accurate data.
  • Active adjusting license(s) as required; ability to obtain additional licenses if needed.

The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 to $90,00 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope and level. HUB International is proud to offer comprehensive benefit and total compensation packages which could include health/dental/vision/life/disability insurance, FSA, HAS and 401(k) accounts, paid-time-off benefits such as vacation, sick, personal, floating holidays and company holidays. In addition, eligible annual bonuses, equity and commissions may be available for some positions.
