Job Description: Remote HR Specialist (Indiana)
Position Summary
We are seeking an energetic Human Resources professional to support our workforce across the state of Indiana as well as supporting our remote workers in many other states. In this remote role, you will be managing the entire employee lifecycle with a heavy focus on onboarding, employee relations, and regulatory compliance.
Candidates should have a strong grasp of Indiana employment law, and thrives in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Onboarding & Offboarding
Lead a seamless, engaging end-to-end onboarding experience for all new hires, ensuring all paperwork, background checks, and system setups are completed accurately.
Conduct virtual orientation sessions to acclimate new employees to company policies, safety standards, and culture.
Manage offboarding processes, including exit interviews and equipment retrieval.
2. Employee Relations
Serve as a trusted advisor and mediator for employees and field supervisors, offering guidance on conflict resolution, performance management, and policy interpretation.
Investigate employee grievances, concerns, and disciplinary issues fairly and confidentially, partnering with leadership to recommend appropriate solutions.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety-conscious remote work culture across field crews and office staff.
3. Compliance & Administration
Ensure all company practices comply with federal, state (Indiana), and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., OSHA, FLSA, FMLA, EEOC).
Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records in the HRIS.
Assist with the implementation and updating of company handbooks, policies, and standard operating procedures.
Support regular HR audits and reporting requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience: 1+ years of proven experience as an HR Generalist or HR Specialist (experience in construction, utility, manufacturing, or field-service industries is a strong plus).
Location: Indiana
Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of Indiana employment laws and general HR compliance standards.
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport remotely with remote field workers and management.
Tech-Savvy: Proficiency with HRIS platforms, applicant tracking systems (ATS), and virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
Education: Background in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience). HR certification (SHRM-CP or PHR) is a plus.
