Work Environment

As a remote mental health counselor, you will leverage technology to connect with clients, offering therapy sessions and follow-ups through a secure virtual platform. While the primary work setting is remote, you will occasionally collaborate with colleagues in an outpatient office environment to discuss cases, conduct group sessions, and foster teamwork. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial consultations and mental health assessments to evaluate clients’ emotional and behavioral status, documenting findings meticulously from the start to the end of treatment.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for diverse populations, including individuals, couples, families, and groups that address mental health, addiction, and trauma-related issues.
  • Facilitate engaging individual and group therapy sessions, utilizing evidence-based practices to promote effective recovery strategies.
  • Monitor client progress throughout treatment and adjust interventions as necessary, ensuring ongoing support and commitment to clients’ mental health journeys.
  • Collaborate interprofessionally with psychiatrists, primary care providers, and social workers to design comprehensive intervention plans that promote holistic well-being.
  • Provide referral management services, helping clients navigate additional resources and specialists when required.
  • Support family members and caregivers by equipping them with strategies to cope with complex mental health challenges.
  • Identify potential barriers to recovery and implement preventative strategies to enhance client outcomes.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology from an accredited program is required.
  • Current and valid licensure as an LCMFT, LMFT, LCPC, or LCSW-C in the state of Maryland.
  • Successful completion of the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and/or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).
  • Demonstrated experience in mental health counseling, with proficiency in electronic health record systems such as AVATAR.
  • A solid understanding of the intersection between physical health, emotional wellness, and addiction treatment modalities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, allowing for clear articulation of treatment plans and collaboration with other professionals.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, displaying empathy and understanding in client interactions.
Preferred Experience
  • Prior experience working with a variety of mental health conditions, particularly in an outpatient or community health context.
  • Knowledge of American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) best practices to ensure compliance with ethical standards.
  • Familiarity with psychopharmacology and the impact of prescribed medications on client health and recovery.
